Areum clasped her sweaty hands together, praying that Jungkook would survive the surgery.

     Don't die. Don't die. Don't die.

     Whatever you do, don't die.

She took deep and long breaths, trying to calm herself as much as she could. He's not going to die, Areum. It's okay. It's okay. The door of the room that they were operating in opened and Areum's head snapped upwards, looking at the doctor. The doctor lowered his mask with a smile on his face.

"The patient is okay and is resting right now. We will bring him to a private room for you both. However, his body may reject the solution that we gave him, at any moment. Please watch over him and call for us quickly if anything happens," the doctor said.

"Thank you."

Jungkook was laying on the hospital bed, the monitor attached to him beeping steadily. Areum was sitting on the chair next to the bed, holding Jungkook's hand tightly. She brushed her hand against his cheek and then his hair, with her free hand.

"You're gonna be okay," she whispered.

Jungkook lightly squeezed Areum's hand. Areum looked up at his face and Jungkook was looking back at her with a small smile, his lips dry and cracked. He wanted to tell her that he'll be okay, but he didn't want to lie to her. He didn't want to lie to himself anymore. Jungkook was experiencing excruciating pain to the point that he wanted to kill himself. However, he couldn't because he knew that Areum needed him.

But all Areum wanted to hear was that he was okay. No words came out of Jungkook's mouth and she knew what he meant.

"Please survive," she murmured to herself. Jungkook furrowed his eyebrows in curiosity, but decided not to ask her what was wrong.

"You're beautiful," Jungkook commented. For the first time in a long time, he was able to completely admire her. Every feature of her face, including her flaws. Despite all her flaws and scars, she was still beautiful in the inside and outside. She was perfection; the epitome of beauty within.

Areum's cheeks turned red in color and looked away, still holding his hand.

"I love you, Areum," Jungkook said as he looked deeply into her eyes. Areum's eyes glinted with happiness and her heart fluttered by his words. She felt as though butterflies were in her stomach.

She kissed his forehead and said, "I–"

Areum was interrupted by the dangerously fast beating of the monitor. The hand that she was holding felt cold and looked pale. Jungkook was seizing violently and his body was being thrown around the bed. He was spitting out blood occasionally and his breaths were getting desperate.

"Oh my god," Areum rushed out the room and yelled for the hospital staff. About four of them ran towards the room and strolled Jungkook's bed out of the room quickly. Areum followed them, but was soon told to stay outside once they reached the door to the surgical room.

She cried out hysterically and prayed to herself that Jungkook would survive. Areum tried to wipe her tears with the sleeves of her shirt, but the tears just kept on pouring down her face.

She fell down to her knees and sobbed.

It was only a few minutes later before one of the doctors came out of the surgical room and approached Areum with a stiff posture.

"I'm sorry for your loss. The patient is dead. We will contact you later if you want him to be cremated or buried," the doctor said with pity and walked away.

Areum choked on her tears and slammed her fists on the ground. She got up and stumbled out of the hospital. It was raining.

What a coincidence. Everything that's happening today is so gloomy.

The rain hit her face harshly as her hair and clothes got drenched. She clumsily walked towards Jungkook's house and stood outside, staring at it. Areum sobbed harder, remembering all the happy memories she had with Jungkook.

She laid her hand on the doorknob for a moment before turning it. It was unlocked and the door clicked open.

She walked inside, wandering around until she reached Jungkook's room. She looked through his closet and took one of his jackets. She held it tight against her body, the scent of it reminding her of him. Almost as if he was alive. Areum laid down in his bed despite being completely drenched and cried until she fell asleep, her hands grasped tightly onto Jungkook's jacket.

You were the only one I really had and now you've left me.

(THERE'S STILL ONE MORE CHAPTER.)
So this is pretty devastating, but I just want to say not all romances or things in life end happily as much as you want to believe it does. I'm not being pessimistic, but I'm being realistic. Good and bad things happen everyday despite what you try to do.
