Y/n's POV:
To say that things escalated quickly would be an understatement. The first thing I knew is that Kili jumped out of his barrel to pull the lever to open the water gate, and the next he was lying in the ground with an orc arrow burrowed into his leg. Orcs started appearing from every direction shooting arrows at us, and that's when I saw him. Legolas. Shooting orcs one by one, and even two by two. Then along came Tauriel who began killing off orcs as well. Then I realized that Bilbo had brought me my weapons, and I could join the fight too. I hopped out of my barrel onto the land and ran up to where Kili was to check in him. He was groaning in pain but seemed okay. I leaned down to check his pulse when an arrow shot right by my head missing it by centimeters. I quickly whipped my bow out, rose to my full height and joined the fight. As I was shooting arrows Kili stood up and yanked the lever down, walked to the edge and looked back at me and yelled, "y/n, it's time to go!" And jumped back into his barrel breaking the arrow of as he did. I quickly put my bow away and jumped back into my own barrel all the while feeling a pair of eyes on me.

Legolas' POV:
"The dwarves are gone!" I heard someone shout. My heart sank, if the dwarves are gone that must mean she is as well. I quickly grabbed my bow and sprinted after Tauriel to go catch the dwarves, and y/n. I leaped over a bridge, expecting to see a bunch of dwarves, but instead was met with the sight of orcs and barrels?, no dwarves in barrels. I quickly whipped my out arrows and began to bow down as many orcs as I could. As a spun around and shot two orcs in the head at once I saw y/n jump out of her barrel to defend a dwarf that had been shot in the leg by an orc. As she knelt down next to him an arrow narrowly missed her head and it made my heart race in terror. I looked at her in shock as she whipped out her bow as well and shot the orc who fired the arrow right through the head, and proceeded to do the same with several more. I smirked and began to kill more orcs making my way over to her and the dwarves. As I got closer the dwarf she was protecting stood up yelled something to her and jumped into his barrel, and before I could reach her she did the same. Their barrels drifted down river, so me and Tauriel followed killing orcs as we went.

Y/n's POV:
As our barrels continued downstream I kept my bow out and shot orcs as we passed by. When I ran out of arrows I took out my sword and swung at any orcs that came within range. We pushed further and further downriver, orcs and elves still fighting around us and I let my guard down for a moment to kill an orc that was on top of Fili's barrel, and I was shot in the arm by an arrow. The arrow went in one side completely and poked out of the other, and I scream out when I saw it. Not out of pain, but out of pure rage, and hatred for the orc that had shot me. I knew what was happening, and I couldn't control it. I was so mad that I let it get the better of me and I began to shift. Knowing that I could not stop it in this moment, and the only way for my arm to heal quickly was to shift. So I lept out of the barrel and onto the river bank and began to shift. Once I felt my teeth grow to long, sharp points I knew I was completely shifted, so I howled and began sprinting around ripping out the throats of orcs.

Legolas' POV:
I continued to run after the dwarves for a little bit, and that when I saw y/n get hit with an arrow.  Which made me sprint towards her faster to see it she was alright. She screamed out, but it wasn't a scream of pain, it was one of fury. She looked around eyes glowing blue and jumped out of her barrel on the the river bank getting on all fours, arching her back as she began to shift. Long White hair sprouted from every direction, sharp claws protruded from her hands, which were slowly turning to paws. Her face began to elongate like a snout and her pointy elf ears grew into the pointed ears of a canine. Once she completed her transformation she let out an immensely loud howl and began to sprint away killing orcs once again, but this time as a wolf. I stood there on the hill I had stopped on and just stared at the scene before me. I was in complete awe of what just happened. Y/n just shifted in front of all of these people. My senses came back to me when I realized I wasn't fighting, apparently the orcs did too, because they rushed me. I quickly sprung back into action decapitating three at once, and then whipping out my bow to shoot some more. I used the dwarves' head as stepping stones to get to the other side of the river, which they did not enjoy to much, but it seemed to get y/n's attention and it almost seemed like she smiled, if wolves can smile.

Y/n's POV:
After ripping as many orc throats as I could with my teeth I felt my heart rate begin to slow down allowing me to relax. I was no longer in  a state of blind fury, so I cleared my head and began to catch up with the barrels floating away quickly as I approached I saw Legolas jumping on their heads to get to the other side of the river. The dwarves didn't seem to happy about it, but it made me giggle. As the barrels drifted further down river I caught up with them, but decide to just run after them on the bank, because I could not return to my barrel anymore. I bounded along the bank for quite some time before the barrels finally drifted ashore. Before walking over to greet the dwarves, I looked behind us to see if there were anymore orcs or elves on our trail, but it seemed there was not, which for some reason made me feel a bit sad. I quickly got over it and sprinted over to the dwarves shifting as I did. Once I was standing in front of them I asked if everyone was okay and they just stared at me in awe, even Kili who could barely keep his eyes open. I guess they had never see a skin changer shift up close before.
