We ride out of Serendipity in complete silence. I don't say anything, and Ren looks like she doesn't want to talk anyway. I follow her onto the back roads and into Eartha Forest, where she found me. I've been a bit curious about that. I open my mouth to ask her about it, but she 'shushes' me before I can say anything.
She glances over her shoulder and listens. I wait for her to say something. I've learned to trust her, and I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing. " They're closing in on us," she whispers a bit frantic. " Their horses are the best in the Halcyon Empire. We can't out-ride them. It's a miracle we've made it this far without them catching us."
"So what do we do?" I ask, climbing off of my horse.
She glances at me, " We outsmart them." I groan inwardly. This will end badly, I can just tell. Ren slides off her horse gracefully, " I have a plan," she says with more confidence then I would ever have in a situation like this.
Ren unstraps the saddle bags and hands them to me. " We'll need these."
" Why do I have to carry them?" I ask indignantly.
" Because. I'll be too busy fighting and running for my life. Do try to keep up." she says as she strides into the forest.
