Another plasma bullet whizzes over my head. Any lower and it would've been lights out for me. I'm extremely lucky Azula missed.
"Well at least I know she's following me, now to figure out what to do next. I really got to start thinking these things through." I say to myself.
I quickly take in my surroundings as I speed past. I didn't dare look back though. If I did I could hit a tree and crash or worst yet I might could get tangled up in vines...
"Oh that's it!" I exclaim excitedly. That epiphany could've just saved my life.
I keep leading Azula through the jungle. The bullets keep getting closer and closer to hitting their marks. If I don't find any vines soon I'm finished.
A bullet screams by my cheek and I do what I probably shouldn't have done. I glance behind me for a split second. What I see is not good and very frightening. Azula is gaining on me and has a very scary vengeful look in her eyes.
I quickly look back in front of me and try to fly faster. Up ahead I see something that sends a wave of relief washing over me. There's a thick tangle of vines covering the trees up ahead.
"That'll do nicely." I say. "Now I just gotta hope that this works." I veer into the path that would take me directly through the vines.
I fly straight towards it but at the last second I gather all my strength and shoot upward to avoid the vines. I clear it and skim over the top of the vines. Azula however, wasn't so lucky.
She had been so focused on me to see the vines. When I suddenly changed direction and shot up into the tree canopy to avoid them, she didn't have any time to react and crashed right into them. She quickly becomes entangled among the unruly patch of vines.
I hear the frustrated grunt of Azula hitting the vines and I look down with satisfaction "Alright my plan worked!" I put my hand up to my mouth like I'm thinking "It wasn't a good plan, and I thought it wasn't going to work, but a success is a success so I'll take it."
Carefully I fly down to where Azula is tangled up. She is struggling fiercely to get herself untangled from the vines, but the more she struggles the more tangled up she becomes. When Azula notices I'm in front of her, she growls menacingly like a wild animal and strains her muscles trying to snap the vines wrapped around her arms and legs.
I feel something touch my shoulder.
Instinctively I grab my sword and spin around to find Briggan behind me.
"Briggan I almost killed you!" I say surprised. Then I narrow my eyes and raise my sword in a defensive stance. "Wait...what are you doing here?" I ask suspiciously.
Briggan looks away from me and blushes. "I-I was concerned for your safety." He says shyly.
"Umm thank you for caring," I say unsure of what to think of Briggan's intentions "but as you can see I'm fine. I don't need you looking out for me I don't know your intentions." I reply.
Briggan flinches as if I'd hit him and looks like his feelings got hurt.
"Oh no, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to hurt your feelings!" I say guiltily. "I'm just worked up about this ordeal and don't really know what to think anymore." I add quickly.
Briggan's expression brightens "Really?"
I smile. He really was cute with that lopsided grin. He reminded me a lot of Tiny. "Yeah, now all we have to do is figure out how to get your sister out of terminator mode."
"I may know a way to help." Briggan replies.
He flies down so he could be even with Azula and looks her in the eyes. Then he begins talking to her "Azula, it's me Briggan, your brother."
Azula growls and snaps at Briggan.
He doesn't seem phased at all and he keeps going "You're the strongest person I know," he pauses and glances back at me and rubs the back of his head clearly embarrassed "Well that was until I met Essix."
He gets a little closer to Azula and raises a hand towards her. Shortly after it starts glowing a light blue. I've seen that before...it's a special healing spell that's specifies on driving out nightmares.
I'm impressed Briggan knows how to use spells that are that caliber of magic. He must be looking to drive out whatever is controlling her.
"I know you can beat the Kobra Drive Azula! My sister can do anything!" Briggan then gives Azula a hug filled with all the love of a little brother.
Azula snarls at Briggan and twists her head around. She manages to sink her teeth deep into his shoulder. Briggan flinches and grits his teeth from the pain, but amazingly he didn't let go.
"You can bite me all you want, but I know deep down the real Azula is in there somewhere. I know you can do it, I'm here for you!!" Briggan yells.
The blue glow from his healing spell progressively got brighter. I shield my eyes with my arm as it grows into a flash of white light.
When my vision clears and the flash of light is gone I open my eyes to find them there in the same position.
At first I think nothing has happened and Briggan has failed. Then the unthinkable happens. Azula blinks and I see her eyes are no longer blank and vacant looking.
She looks around confused her gaze unfocused until her eyes landed on her brother hugging her. "Briggan?"
Briggan couldn't contain his excitement. "AZULA?!" He gave her another bear hug except this one is much bigger. "You're alive!!"
Azula smiles and shakes her head "I was never dead to begin with you goof ball."
"I know, I'm just really happy you're back to normal!" Briggan exclaims excitedly with a little tail wag.
Azula suddenly frowns and acts like she's trying to get a bad taste out of her mouth. "Why do I taste blood all in my mouth?" Then her gaze falls on Briggan's bloody shoulder and a somber expression crosses her face. "D-did I do that to you?"
Briggan breaks away from their hug and glances down at his shoulder wound. He shrugs. "You did...but it's ok. You weren't yourself. I know you'd never do that on purpose."
Azula frowns. "But look at how bad that is! I could've killed you!" She almost shouts. She looks at me. "I could've killed both of you..."
I fly down to her and cut her loose with my sword. "Yeah but you didn't." I say trying to sound positive.
