The music was thumping through my chest, seemingly dragging me towards the dancefloor, making my hips ache to swing. Just when I was about to step into the main room, someone tapped on my shoulder.
I panicked a little and spun around, feet already positioned in a defensive stance. In front of me was a tall man with brown hair and dark, almost black eyes.
"Hey there.", his voice was soft and I could hear it even though the music should have swallowed it. I looked at him curiously. "Hey.", my voice was clear and maybe a little bit too sharp. "My name is Nathan, what is yours?" I cocked my head a bit to the right. "Alex. Nice to meet you." He smiled. "Are you enjoying yourself?", he asked carefully. I shrugged "Haven't gone in yet."
We were standing in the entrance room, lights flashing in from the main room. A couple stood in a corner while making out, a queue of girls in front of the bathroom, a sign to a special area guarded by another bouncer. The sign read "VIPs only". All this I caught with the glance of an eye and more. The paint on the walls was new, no cracks. I could smell sweat and joy, lust and exhaustion.
"Well, why don't you join me in the VIP zone?", he uttered. I raised an eyebrow. "But you don't even know me." He chuckled. "Fair enough. So tell me about yourself."We stood there a long time talking, smiling and even laughing. I enjoyed it. It was nice talking to someone who didn't look down upon me. I was just in the middle of talking about my favorite sports, describing how certain movements could change the course of a game, when someone roughly grabbed my shoulder and yanked me around. "Didn't think you'd show up.", it was the guy from the elevator. Oh, great. (I hope you can hear my sarcasm.)
Nathan frowned at the elevator guy. "Well I'm here so please leave me alone, would ya? I'm having a conversation here.", my voice was steady, my fingers didn't shake. I was in my fighting cool. My whole body position changed, my spine was straight, my head was up, my face was blank, my weight on both feet. The idiot laughed. "I wouldn't waste my time on her, if I was you. She's a demon. Has a hot body tho.", the idiot licked his lips at me and laughed at Nathan. "Leave. Now. Before I bust your teeth in.", my voice was silent but it lingered in the air. Nathan stood in front of me, as if he needed to protect me. I looked at his back, surprised. "Leave this Club.", his voice was loud, the bouncer in front of the VIP zone looked at us and talked into his Walkie-talkie. "Huh, make me.", the idiot closed in on Nathan. Nathan was so relaxed, as if the situation was under control. "Oh don't worry, I don't have to. I hired staff for that.", he smiled. In that moment, a security guard came in, grabbed the idiot and escorted him out. The idiot was so dumbfolded that he couldn't do anything. Nathan turned around and smiled. "Call me Nate, please."
