I went back to the house of the wizard. My motorcycle was still there. It looked so peaceful. No blood, no foul smells, just a sunny, mild winter day. I hopped onto the motorcycle, started it up and hit the gas. I drove through the city, clearing my mind as the vibrations of the engine rattled through my body. I parked in the company's garage and walked through the busy crowd. It was Christmas soon. I headed for a Starbucks, bought a big Caramel Hot Chocolate and sat down upstairs. I gazed out of the window, carefully sipping my drink. My eyes followed a mother, buying toys for her children, a man buying a plush heart, probably for a lover. I sat there and stared outside, letting life flow by me.
"Alex?" My head whipped around. I knew that soft voice. "Nate? What are you doing here?" He chuckled and sat down in front of me. "I'm always here. Every week, same time." I smiled at him. "You okay?", Nate asked carefully. I nodded and looked outside, watching the masses flood by. He followed my gaze and smiled. "You look really pretty, you know?" I looked at him surprised. He chuckled again. I noticed how his chest vibrated and shifted under his white shirt, how his lips parted a bit to reveal his teeth, how his hair almost fell into his eyes. I took a sip of my hot chocolate. It was wonderfully sweet. Nate looked at me. "Your cheeks are red. It's cute." I smiled and looked down. "You seem to have a talent for making me blush." Nate seemed quite satisfied with himself. I chuckled. He was cute.We talked about a lot, music, series we were watching, food, Christmas and so on. I started to fangirl about the KPop band I listened to, their name was BTS. I was fascinated by their dances and their voices. Nate listened to me and smiled. I don't know how long we talked but it seemed so relieving.
"So, how have you been?", I asked. "Pretty good, one of my workers stole some of our stuff and we haven't found it yet but that's all." I raised my eyebrows. "What did they steal?" "A special ornament I had in my office. It is very dear to me. It is made of glass, looks like a burning rose. Here, I think I got a picture of it somewhere...", Nate searched through his phone pictures. "Ahm... Yeah, there it is!", he exclaimed and showed me a picture of some gentlemen and himself in his office, on the wall hung a glass rose. It almost seemed to be alive with fire consuming the petals. "It looks beautiful.", I murmured. "I had it made after an artifact someone found near a volcano. I find it to be strengthening, you know?" I nodded and smiled. "Yeah, I can imagine. Too bad it's gone. Do you have any idea who might have taken it?" He shrugged. "I really don't wanna make any accusations." I winked at him. "I'm a private investigator, don't forget. Maybe I can find something." He looked at me hopefully. "You think so?" I packed my stuff and stood up. "Well, I can try." He jumped up and hugged me tightly. "That would be amazing! Please tell me if you find anything." "I'll need your help first. Could you put a list of all workers together?" He nodded. "I'll send it to you." He caressed my face with his hand. I beamed at him, turned around and left with a swing in my step. My cheek was still hot where he had touched me.
