Dedicated to Sarah, for being my bestie :D
Day: 3
NATHAN’S PERSPECTIVE
Kiara is surely a tough nut to crack. Correction: You never compare girls to nuts. But what can I do? She is so damn shy! And her shyness is hindering her performance. Our performance, I mean. Each and every freaking second Mr. Faucher corrects and his voice is sort of getting onto my nerves.
“Eye contact, Miss. John, I hope this is the last time I will be telling you this.” Mr. Faucher said, looking genuinely tired. And she also had another annoying habit. She caught Miranda’s eye and started giggling. Blake and I looked at each other and rolled our eyes. Blake and his partner were standing a little away from us. After demonstrating one of the lifts to Mr. Faucher, I moved away to get a sip of water while Kiara went to Miranda for a chat. We were divided into two groups. One group was doing the lifts while the other group was dancing. Blake and I were in the former group, our group was resting while the other group was swirling lightly to the music. Both our partners were giggling rather loudly when Blake joined me.
“The Annual Ball is surely going to be a memorable moment for me,” Blake said as sarcastically as possible.
“Sure. It will be. When Kiara actually starts talking to me like a normal person,” I said and offered him some water. He took a long gulp from the bottle.
“Unlike us, others are actually having fun. June and Michael make a good pair though June deserves much better,” Blake said and sniggered.
“Yeah, funny, look at them. The replicas of Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz,” I pointed towards Aryan and Rhea. While the others in their group were dancing, Aryan and Rhea were involved in their own battle. Foot battle, to be precise. Rhea was stomping on Aryan’s foot with her heels, while Aryan was kicking her foot away furiously. Both of us had to control our laughter as Mr. Faucher was giving us serious looks.
“The true picture of made- for- each- other couple, eh?” Blake asked.
“‘Who hath loved, that loved not at first sight?’” I quoted.
“You wouldn’t say that in front of Aryan or Rhea unless you want view your dead body from above”
“Yeah, thanks for reminding. By the way, don’t you think Roy’s laying it a little too thick? Bent on becoming Ashley’s Prince Charming, don’t you think?”
“Too bad I’m going pound my fist into his ‘charming’ face,” Blake remarked by balling up his fists and clenching his jaws. Another scenario of true love had started starring Blake Acre, Ashley Sinclair and Roy McKellar. Roy being the villain flirts with Ashley. Blake loves Ashley and hence gets jealous with a capital J.
“And why exactly would you hit him?” I probed him further.
“Because…” He paused to think of a valid reason. “He is a shameless flirt and a rumored drug dealer.”
“Are you sure that’s the reason?” I asked trying not to laugh.
“Of course”
“Okay.” I said and turned to leave.
“Nathan!”
“Yes?” I asked turning back to him.
“I think I like her and I also think that she might be falling for McKellar.”
Day: 4
SAM’S PERSPECTIVE
Jimmy’s not as bad as everyone predicted. Neither has he tried to pry any work related secrets from me nor has he asked about anything confidential. So far so good. I was actually having a good time with him. We even exchanged numbers! It is something, right? And I also realized that he was an excellent dancer.
“Oh, my God. Are you by chance wearing Allen Vento apparel?” he asked me, gushing, on our fourth day of practice.
“You noticed. Yes. My cousin from London gifted it to me,” I said modestly.
“It’s a limited edition! And it hasn’t even been released in the United States. Lucky you! I haven’t even made it to the waiting list,” He said with excitement dropping by every second.
“Oh, don’t worry. I’ll ask my cousin if she can get another one for you. She works with Vera Wang but it’s going to be a long wait, mind you.” I told him.
“Oh, I’m ready to wait for it for my entire life.”
“Not even THAT long!” I said and the both of us laughed.
Day: 5
JUNE’S PERSPECTIVE
Last day of practice. Boy, am I not relieved! Mr. Faucher had better watch out because he has gained a very dangerous enemy. Namely: me. He has tortured each one of us equally with his, “Eye contact, straight posture, close proximity”. These words refused to leave my head. Tomorrow was D-Day. The day all of us have been waiting for since forever. Surprisingly, I have learnt many new things in these five days. I have learnt to dance perfectly. I learnt that taking up assassination of annoying people as a career had great prospective. I also learnt that Michael was not as headstrong as I thought him to be. Above all, I learnt that together, we friends could overcome any obstacle. Ballroom dancing was a first class obstacle, for sure!
