DEAN’S PERSPECTIVE

I was sitting in the lounge with my friends and all of them were de-stressing in their own way, with a cup of coffee.

“McKellar? Roy McKellar? Are they kidding me? Seriously. McKellar? Roy McKellar!” Ashley was walking to and fro, clearly frustrated. Her coffee was on the verge of spilling.

“It is rumored that he deals in drugs,” Nathan said. Ashley froze on the spot where she was standing, looking wide-eyed at Nathan.

          “What?” She squeaked.

“Dude, that doesn’t exactly improve her mood, you know?” Blake said, irritated, to Nathan. “Whatever it is Ashley, do not interact too much with him. Keep your distance, okay?” He warned her.

“Who are you to tell me, huh?” Ashley flared up. “You aren’t my mom, are you? I’m not a kid. I can take care of myself!” She picked up her handbag and proceeded to leave the lounge. Just before opening the door, she turned back. “Oh! And by the way, enjoy dancing with Miranda Whitman,” she said with a sarcastic smile and stormed away.

“What’s with her?” Blake asked, perplexed. Everybody was as confused as him.

“Should I go and check on her?” Stacey asked.

          “I guess so,” June said.

Everybody was silent while Stacey walked out. The silence lingered for a pretty long time till Stacey’s entry broke it. Everybody looked up at her.

“What happened?” Blake asked before anybody else.

“She was crying and she said she wanted to be alone.” Stacey replied.

“I wonder what’s gotten over her,” Blake muttered. The girls looked at each other with knowing looks.

“Will someone listen to ME?” Sam said, almost wailing.

Everybody dutifully turned to Sam, who was crouched on the couch. He looked like he was about to cry. But he only moaned, which was way more pathetic.

“I am gay, he is gay, and we are dance partners! What is this? A ‘match the following’ exercise?” he said (moaned, actually).

“Just because he’s from a rival magazine doesn’t mean he’s bad, okay? Sam, you might actually like him.” Michael said, while playing Angry Birds on his phone.

“Sure, why not? I might even like Michelle tomorrow! You have got someone you already know as a date and she also happens to be your colleague and friend. What could be better than that?” Sam said with a tinge of jealousy in his tone.

“Yeah, no regrets,” Michael said, looking at June and laughing.

“Sammy, you should recollect that I’m having a half- brain for my date. Who knows? He might step over my dress and make me fall.” June said, giving Sam a reassuring pat.

          “Hey!” Michael exclaimed defensively.

“June, don’t be mean. You’re underestimating Michael’s abilities. He is very much capable of getting so drunk that he might actually manage to kill Zack and start dancing with Gabrielle!” Nathan said. “Won’t you Michael?”

Michael started to punch Nathan jokingly.

“Horror of the horrors!” Stacey exclaimed jovially.
