First Day

I sighed as I looked at myself in the mirror. I have been standing in front of the mirror for about fifteen minutes. What is wrong with me? It's not like i'm going to suddenly change. I'm dressing to casually. I just know it. I kept on thinking over what Hank told me. I wanted to dress to impress. Everyone is so rich and i'm so not. Oh well. I guess this look will do. I wore a white button down shirt and a jet black pencil skirt. I also pinned my hair into a bun. I look professional. Sort of.

I looked at my alarm clock at the side of my bed. It read 9:52 am. No. No. No. This can't be happening! I was so stressed out about what to wear and now I might be late on my first day!

I rushed down the stairs and ignored all the good lucks that my family gave me and ran out the front door. I crossed the road and ran inside the building.

Once I entered the building I immediately took a step back. This is where I will work? It looked like the queen could live here. Hank wasn't kidding when he told me that this place was filled with snobby rich people. Almost every single person turned to look at me as I walked down the hall. A lot of them gave me dirty looks.

I think that I and definitely going to get lost here!

"So glad that you made it Clara!" I heard a voice say to me from behind. I quickly turned around to find Hank smiling at me.

"As I said before it's a really tough job here. You have to be-"

"As tough as stone. I know. You told me yesterday. I know exactly what I'm getting myself into. I'm already as late as it is so can you show me where I will be working at. There are tons of floors in this building." I told him looking at him with pleading eyes.

"Well I was waiting here for you actually. I knew there was something special about you. When I look at you, I see so much spirit." He said smiling.

"Now follow me. I will show you where you will work. It will be really easy to remember where you work because you work at the very top floor. Remember, your the assistant of the head CEO." Hank told me as we got into the elevator.

Gosh I hate elevators. I hate the feeling that I get in my stomach as we move. What made my experience in the elevator even worse was the dirty looks that I got from the two girls across from me. The two girls continued to stare at me and smile evilly at me. They pointed to me like I wasn't even there and started laughing. Hank noticed the looks and looked at the floor. Completely ignoring them. They didn't take their eyes of me the whole way up the elevator.

That's when I totally lost it. I looked straight into their eyes as I walked towards them. "What? If you have a problem with me then let's hear it" I yelled. That's when they finally turned around. The whole way up the elevator was silent. Dead silence. The two girls weren't smiling anymore. I felt pretty proud of myself. A couple floors later the two girls practically ran out of the elevator.

Maybe. Just maybe. I can work here.

Once I heard the quiet ding of the elevator, I knew that I reached the top floor. All my confidence that I had just dropped.

"Hey. Before you get out and meet your boss,I want to wish you luck. You'll need it." Hank told me while putting a hand on my shoulder.

"What do you mean 'I'll need it.' That's not exactly stuff that I want to hear before I meet my boss." I said nervously at Hank.

"Well he isn't exactly an easy person to work with. He has everything that he could ever want. He doesn't care about anything except for if it has a benefit to him. He doesn't care about anyone but himself. Keep that in mind when you work with him. I have worked with him a couple of times and he is a very difficult person to get along with. I almost felt like quitting but soon I got moved to one of the lower floors. Well I guess my advice to you is to not get in his way and stay on the down low and you should be fine." Hank finished saying as he hugged me and gently pushed my out of the elevator.
