Harrison and I ran into my mate with her arms wrapped around Carson. Worry hits me like a tidal wave. I don't like the fact that my mate is upset. If Carson is the cause of it, so help me. Victoria stands as she sees us coming towards them. We meet each other half way and I engulf her into my arms. I close my eyes at the blissful feeling of her being able to hold her again.
I can feel her sadness, the heavy burden weighing on her heart. My wolf peeks up a little to comfort her. She hugs me tight, as she pulls away, smiles brightly. I smile back, happy she's not entirely upset, but the way she smiles tells me that there is definitely something on her mind. I pull Victoria into my side. My heart warms at the sight I see in front of me. Harrison has stopped about a meter away from Carson.
Carson looks at him both with worry and fear, or maybe it's regret. However, Harrison proceeds walking to stand before Carson. He leans down and plants a soft kiss on his cheek. Carson smiles and hugs him. It's noticeable Harrison is caught by surprise, but hugs Carson back as he whispers in his ear.
I'm glad they made up. I know, I hate Carson's guts, but that doesn't mean I want him to be totally miserable. That'd only make him much more annoying.
We walk over to Carson and Harrison. Harrison looks to Victoria with an apologetic smile.
"I apologize for my sudden reckless actions."
Victoria smiles back, "it's alright, Harris."
Harrison nods in understanding. My wolfs ears perk up.
"Drake is calling for us. He's worried when we'll be back."
Everyone nods and begins walking back to the house. I look back at Victoria to see her lost in thought. A concentrated look in her eyes. I look back at the trail ahead with a sigh that locks in my throat. My ears catch something zip pass me, followed by a surprised yelp from Carson.
Harrison instantly catches him as he falls and begins examining the wound. Victoria dashes over to Carson.
"Fuck!"
He heaves in pain, his fingers wrapped around the wooden arrow deep within his shoulder. He moves his head to look at the weapon.
"Wood... Fucking ass wrappers! It's wood."
"It won't kill him, will it," Victoria frantically asks. Harrison shakes his head, "no. They didn't aim for the heart. Either way, it'll take a lot more than just a wooden arrow to the heart to kill a royal vampire. It'll just—"
"Hurt like hell! Shit, I never thought I'd say this, but could you please get this wood out of me?" Victoria shakes her head, but I can tell she was trying to wrap her head around how he can joke after being shot.
Harrison moves to pull it out, but stops suddenly, his eyes glazed over.
"What is it?" I ask once I take in the expression on his face he usually never has so suddenly. He looks up to me, his eyes bright yellow and fangs extended.
"Riley. We're under attack." With that, Harrison speeds back to the house. I turn to follow, but stop to look at Victoria and Carson.
"Be safe, fruit cake. Carson, if she dies, so help me."
"Yeah, yeah. Get the fuck out of here." I glare at him for that answer, take one more look at Victoria before I let my vampire take over and speed home.
The sight I see before me takes my breath away. Drake on the verge of shifting and July the most angry I've ever seen him, right beside Riley. Harrison stands on the other side of Drake.
"Well, well, well. If it isn't the all time famous hybrid, James Patterson."
It was as if cold water was dumped over my head, not from a shirtless Victoria this time. That voice. I turn around to be faced with the man of my nightmares as a child.
Andrew Carnegie, the leader of the Parliament.
"Oh, you recognize me?" He smiles a kind smile it's sick. "I'm relieved to see you've grown civilized. How's your sister doing?"
A growl erupts from my chest, that bastard! He knows fair well what happened. Drake grabs my arm to hold me back.
"Interesting... You've found a little pack of your own, Drake. I'm impressed you stayed with them for as long."
This time it was Riley and I whom had to hold Drake back.
Andrew laughs. "Harrison! You chose to live after all. Even with all the heartbreak you've been through." His face resembles that of a statue made of stone. His yellow eyes locked on every move Andrew makes. At that moment the bushes and branches rustle before revealing Victoria, Carson not far behind.
Andrew stops his steps towards Harrison and makes eye contact with my mate. Instantly my wolf is unsettled.
"I found you, Victoria." He holds up a flower he's been twirling in his hands. A water Lilly. "The games over, I've grown quite bored of your lazy tactics, my sweet Victoria."
