It was the middle of June when we finally finished the BFFC clubhouse. The entire thing was built up and perfect, just like Lexi and I had imagined it since the day that we decided to create the hideaway. From the outside, it seemed like a common tree house, wood planks, a window, and a ladder going up the tree. From one of the branches hung a swing, held by sturdy ropes, and the base made of a short, thick wood plank. Nobody would ever guess what was on the inside of our hideaway, and our parents left that part to us. Lexi and I decided that we would attempt to paint the walls, our favorite colors, sky blue and teal. Just like my old room and her current one. My mom gave us an old bookshelf that we could put up there, so we would have a place to put our books and stuff. We added a small, black card table and a few folding chairs, along with a fuzzy rug. Overall, I loved the place. Lexi decided that we needed one of those rotating disco balls that you find at a rollerskating place, so we put one on the bookshelf. After all that, we decorated the poorly painted walls with all kinds of things, and my dad suggested that we take a picture of us and hang it in there. I thought that it was a great idea. When the walls were finished, we filled the shelves with our favorite books, and our "club rules". The club rules were bound together in a pink notebook with flowers on it, and it held all of the rules we must follow to be in the club, and just for being friends. The clubhouse was a dream come true, and Lexi and I spent almost every day up there, until our mothers called us in.
One day, we were sitting up in the hideaway braiding each others hair and sipping lemonade from those swirly straws.
"Hey, Anne, do you think that our parents would let us have a sleepover up here?" Lexi asked me.
I thought about how fun it would be to spend a night in the clubhouse. I had never had a sleepover though, so I wasn't really sure what my mom would think of it.
"Hmm... maybe," I said.
"Well, you wanna ask your mom?" she said.
"Not really... will you ask her for me?" I said.
"Sure! We will have to get a lock for our door though," said Lexi.
Lexi wasn't scared very easily, but she didn't trust people all that much. Though I wasn't sure why, I figured that someday she would tell me, so I didn't bother to ask. I tied off her braid and stood up.
"Yeah, let's ask."

Two days later, we had a lock on our door, and our sleeping bags laid out. I was very excited, I had never been to a sleepover before.
"What? You've never been to a sleepover?" Lexi asked.
"No, I haven't."
"Okay, you're just weird," Lexi said.
Just then, we heard a knock on our door.
"Password?" Lexi called.
"It's Luke."
I made a face of surprise. Lexi giggled.
"You like him, don't you?" she whispered excitedly. I nodded slightly and Lexi squealed.
"Can we let him in?" I asked.
Lexi's eyes widened. "Anne! That would be breaking Rule #8! we can't let boys into our clubhouse!" she said.
She was right. It was one of our main rules.
"Sorry, we can't let you in," I said through the floor.
"Well, can you come out to play then?" he asked.
I looked at Lexi and she shrugged.
"Okay!" I said.
