Lizzie's POV
I have never felt so confused in my life. I like Ralph, Jack, and Simon, and they all like me, but I don't know who I like more.
Jack is more demanding, the way a good leader should act, while Ralph is subtle, and likes to not push people too hard..
And then there's Simon. He likes to keep to himself, and I find that He acts more scared around the others then He does me. He is probably the sweetest guy I've ever known, but He is a but younger then me. Not by much, but He is younger.
Before my mama died, she told me some things about guys. She told me that when I fall in love, I will feel butterflies in my stomach whenever I see him or hear his name, and I would think of him all the time. So far, I haven't really been feeling any of that.
'How am I going to live with them?' I groaned to myself.
'Who you talking to?' Simon asked, walking up to me with a coconut full of water.
'Oh, no one in particular, just whoever wants to listen.' I told him.
'I'll listen.' He said.
'You wouldn't be interested in what I have to say.' I mumbled.
'Why not?'
'Because It's just girl stuff.'
'What kind of girl stuff?'
'Just, I don't know.'
'Okay.. Why don't we talk about something else?'
'Like what?'
'Like what happened yesterday...' He mumbled quietly. I sighed.
'l don't know... I just. Ugh! ' I groaned.
'Well, if you don't want to talk about it, It's Fine. I'm younger than you, and you seem to really like Ralph...' He rambled. I hugged him tightly and rested my head on his shoulder.
'Your so shy around everyone else, Why aren't you shy around me?' I asked him.
'You can understand me better then anyone else. And your quiet, not loud and obnoxious like the boys.' He said quietly. 'Why do you like me?'
'What do you mean?' I asked.
'I mean, Why did you choose to call me for help as well? Ralph and Jack could have done it on their own.' He said.
'Because you understand me better. You make me feel like I can open up to you and trust you with anything, and you can calm me down faster than my own father could.' I told him. He nodded and smiled at me. I sighed and looked at all the kids running around.
'Have you ever thought about your future?' I asked out if the blue.
'No. I don't want to think about that. What if I died? That's not much of a future.' He whispered. I studied his facial expression carefully. He looked scared, and confused. 'What about you?' He asked.
'I haven't either. All I know is that I want to grow old with the guy that I love, and my daughter or son that I love, and maybe even grandchildren. But, That's a long time away.' I said. I dug my fingers into the soft sand.
'We're lucky.' He stated.
'What? No We're not, we're stuck on an uninhabited island, I almost got raped, and we haven't gotten even a small bit of meat to eat.' I shot back.
'Yeah, but if you thing about it, we're lucky. We get to see the beauty of the world, and we can do almost anything we want. If you wanted to cuss, you could cuss. You don't realize it, but we're extremely lucky.' He told me, eyes piercing into mine. I stared back, mesmerized at his words. It struck me like lightning, the way He explained everything so, perfectly. I looked around and noticed how beautiful it was, and I noticed many things that I didn't before
'Your right.' I breathed. I saw the palm trees moving in the slight breeze, and the ocean glistening from the sunlight. At that moment, I didn't care that we weren't getting rescued. Well, until I heard a helicopter. I saw the boys drop their things and start waving their arms, calling for help. I stood up and started screaming along, until I remembered the fire. My leg was still broken, and it would be in a lot of pain, but I had to. I did get first in every race I went in!
I started running as fast as I could to the fire. I heard Simon yell for me to stop, but I couldn't. Ralph was right behind me as well, and He was trying time stop me, burning wouldn't. My leg burned like fire, but I kept going for the sake of the others.
When Ralph and I reached the top, we started screaming for help, but it was no use. We weren't getting rescued. I looked over to Ralph, who was looking at the fire, a raged expression on his face.
'Ralph stop! Don't lash out, please.' I begged, as He tried to freak out on the dead tree.
'Why would they do this? Nobody was keeping fire watch, and it was Jack's choirs turn. If they hadn't let it go out, we would be rescued.' He spat angrily. His face softened and He looked at my leg. 'And you. You know you weren't supposed to run on that leg, It's broken.' He explained.
'But I had to. I had to do it for you, for the others, for all of us.' I said. He sighed and pulled me in for a hug.
'Well you shouldn't have.' He mumbled.
'Well I did. Big deal.' I sarcastically said. He chuckled lightly into my neck.
'No more running, Okay?' He instructed.
'Fine!' I groaned. I felt the adrenaline wear away and I started to feel the pain in my leg. 'Shit.' I mumbled and grabbed my now aching leg.
'What's wrong?' Ralph asked urgently.
'Leg hurts.'I groaned.
'SIMON!!!' He yelled. I saw as Simon ran along the trail and up to us.
'What's wrong?' He asked, panting.
'Her leg.' Ralph answered, and Simon's eyes went wide.
'Ralph, carry her. You can't be doing this, Lizzie. You could hurt yourself even worse.' He explained.
'Simon's right. And I'm taking your crutches away.'Ralph stated.
'No! You can't do that!' I uttered.
'Watch me.' He said, picked me up, and started walking down to the beach. Great, another long time sitting on the stupid freaking beach.
