Back to School Rant

So today I returned to school after my Term 1 two week break. Monday was a Professional Development day for the teachers and Tuesday was ANZAC day so we got two public holiday-like days in a row.

But two weeks can fly by fast when you are procrastinating over an essay, looking after your younger cousins and reading 3 novels in a week and a half. So here I am, with a fresh new haircut, drowsy attitude and a determined spark about me, because it was my first full day back at school after my spine operation!

That was pretty exciting and a huge improvement for me, even though I am only going to do two full days a week.

There are a few things that really annoyed me today, and I realised how much I hate the school environment, and a few of the people. Hate is a strong word... so maybe I will settle for heavily detest.

1. Bags

Everybody needs a bag to carry books, laptops and lunch in. What I find extremely intolerable is when students (mainly girls) saunter around with their bags on only one shoulder, the opening halfway down their back, and walking lopsided from unbalance.

The bags have TWO STRAPS. How many shoulders do humans have? TWO. TWO SHOULDERS FOR THE TWO STRAPS. NOT TWO STRAPS FOR ONE SHOULDER (Good luck passing your maths exam). If bags were intended to only be worn with one strap over one shoulder, THEY WOULD HAVE ONE STRAP FOR GOODNESS SAKE!

Those people think they look so cool like that, not being botered to use to two straps they have been provided for by the manufacturer! Look, if you're not going to use that second strap, THEN YOU ARE WASTING YOUR MONEY. Imagine how hard the company worked to design that strap which you are not using? It was probably computerised, but how do think they would feel when you are cutting corners? Golly gosh my unicorn genitals!

Secondly, are you planning to have back problems in the future? Trust me, I know what it is like to have severe back pain, a curved spine, slunched shoulders and a massive lump on one side. I can tell those students that they DO NOT WANT THAT! You will not look so cool.

Backpacks are specifically designed for ultimate comfort, convenience and purpose. I know I sound like some advertising expert, but seriously, it only takes 1-3 seconds to put a strap on depending on the mass of your bag and what is in it. You don't want to hurt your back. You don't wanna walk all lopsided, because I don't think it's attractive.

Each element of a bag is there for a purpose. Whether it is aesthetic, convenient, to put stuff in or for comfort. Those two straps are there for you to use!

Unless you have health problems and can't wear two straps, then can you please give me a legitimate reason why you think you should swagger around the school and unbalanced like that? Aren't your bags heavy filled with your school supplies?

Oh yeah, I forgot.

2. I don't understand why people have small bags and essentially nothing in them

I hate those tiny Nike or Adidas bags which are black and just... ughdgliewusdgieakfb

How do people fit everything in that they need for their school day?

In my bag I have:

-My 14" laptop

-A 96/128 page notebook for each core subject that I have that day (Maths, English, Science, HASS- I have three per day- four on Wednesdays- and two electives)

-Pencil Case

-File for sheets of paper (pretty thin)

-Recess and Lunch
