I'm just getting up to start gathering my things to leave work, when Kate texts me to tell me she's outside waiting on me. She's had to pick me up everyday after work this week since my car broke down and we haven't been able to get it fixed, and she's always right on time. I smile to myself, knowing that I'll be seeing her within minutes. I get ready to leave twice as fast as I usually would and nearly jump out of my own skin when I hear Jack clear his throat behind me. I whirl around to face him, and realize that he's much closer than I thought. I must've been so busy rushing to get to Kate that I didn't even notice him approaching me. "Are you leaving?" He sounds disappointed. "Uh...um...Yeah...." I can tell by the look on his face he's unhappy with my answer, so I immediately change it. "Unless there was something you needed?" I offer, wondering what that look was about. Everyone else has already left. Why shouldn't I? He nods slowly, still seeming displeased. "Yeah actually..." He pauses, looking me up and down. "Ana, come in my office please." I follow him into his office, feeling like I'm back in school and have just been sent to the principals office. "Have a seat." He gestures to the chair in front of his desk, not even looking at me as he does. He's been so cold towards me since we left New York, but I don't understand why. I thought everything went fine with our conference, but perhaps I was wrong. That must be why he's brought me in here to talk. I blush, embarrassed at the thought of being in trouble, but I do as I'm told and sit down. "I think you have potential...." He begins, taking a seat on his desk. "but I'm just not seeing any initiative from you." He glances down, awaiting my reaction. "I need someone who's going to take this job seriously and I'm not sure that you do." He looks down at me as he talks, making me more and more nervous each second. "I do! This is my dream job." I try to assure him, but he just shakes his head, clearly uninterested in anything I have to say. I watch as he gets up from his desk and walks across the room, taking a look around the empty office. "I'm talking about going the extra mile." He slams the door closed, making me jump. "You think I don't realize what you've been doing?" He leans in towards me, uncomfortably close, and I can smell the alcohol on his breath. He's been drinking? At work? "I've been watching you, Ana, very closely. I'm a very smart man, I know when a woman wants me. I can read the signs." I look down at the blue and white polka-dot print on my dress, avoiding his eyes. "I know you want me, Ana, but you're such a cock-blocking prick tease." Me? A tease? "Why won't you just admit it?" I straighten in my seat, trying to appear confident even though inside I'm terrified. "There's nothing to admit, Jack. I think you've been misinterpreting any signs. If you have an issue with my work please just take it up with HR." I stand up and walk towards the door, ready to leave, but he stops me.

He turns me around and pushes me against the door, putting one hand on each side of the door frame so I'm forced to stay facing him. "You know deep down, you want me. So, what's holding you back? We're all alone in here." I take a deep breath, making myself look up into his eyes. "I haven't been leading you on Jack. I'm with someone." I try to remain firm, but my voice shakes, giving me away. "I'm with K-Kate." I stutter out her name, my confidence fading. He's so close and the nearest exit is so far. The only way I'm going to get out of this is if I fight. I start to plan my next move, diverting my attention to the floor. "Ah, yes....The blonde girl." He sneers. "Yes. She's outside waiting on me, right now." I put extra emphasis on she's, hoping he'll get the message. "Well....." He takes a step closer to me and brings his hand up to my face. "She can wait a little longer." A smirk appears on his face as he slowly drags his finger along my cheek. "I would like to leave now, Jack." My voice is soft now, pleading. He leans further in towards me until our faces are almost touching and his lips brush against my ear. "I can make you come...like nobody else has. Not her. Not anyone." He whispers, pushing himself in between my legs. "No!" I grab his finger and shove his thumb backwards, then I push him onto the floor. I run out of his office and and all the way out of the building without looking back.

The doors swing shut behind me as I run towards Kate's car and she immediately jumps out, running the rest of the distance to me. She grabs my hands to steady me. "Ana! Ana, what happened? What's wrong?" She moves her hands down to hold my waist as I try to catch my breath. "Jack." I pant. "It's Jack he t-tried to t-t-touch me." I stutter, taking deep breaths. "I"m gonna kill that fucker!" Kate drops her hold on me starts to run back towards the building, but I grab her arm and stop her. "No!" I pull her back. "Don't leave me here, please." I bury my in my hands, feeling tears spring into my eyes. "You're gonna be okay, Ana." Kate runs her hand over my hair, trying to comfort me. "Listen to me. It's okay, baby. I need you to get in the car, okay?" She says, leading me over to the car. I sit down in the passenger seat and she hands me her keys. "Stay here. Don't worry you'll be safe in the car and I'll be back in just a few minutes, okay." She leans in and gives me a quick kiss, then she shuts the door and turns back the way we came. I want to argue with her, to tell her to stop, but she takes off running back inside, leaving me alone. I lean forward in my seat, staring at the office doors, waiting for Kate to return. All I can think about is Kate in there trying to fight Jack. I'm frozen to my seat, watching the doors in anticipation, when she bursts back through them, holding my things that I left on my desk inside. She hops into the driver seat and hands me my things. "Don't worry. I didn't kill him." She assures me with a smile, noticing the worried look on my face. "Believe me I wanted to, but I didn't. However, I did get a few good kicks in..... and I also might've spit in his face." She smiles smugly, pleased with herself. "Jesus, Kate." I shake my head, my anxiety melting away as a smile appears on my face. My girlfriend is a total badass.

Authors Note; I thought this was a good spot to end this chapter. Kate is a total badass!! Kate being all protective over Ana and kicking Jacks ass is my favorite thing.
