"Hello?" I ask, putting the phone to my ear.

"Scout?"

"Yes?"

"Hi, It's Lin."

"I know. I have a real name, believe it or not."

"But people call you Scout." He says, remembering that.

"I guess, but most of the time I recognize the number or the person simply wouldn't have it." I say, leaning against the hallway wall.

"Well, anyways, do you remember Jazzy and Pippa."

"Yes."

"Well, Renée, the woman who plays the other sister desperately wants to meet you and we thought you might like to get some coffee with the girls."

"Um, yeah. That sounds great. When though?"

"How's Friday after school? What time does it end?"

"Two fifteen but I have orchestra until three."

"So 3pm. The front of your school."

"Oh, they don't have to pick me up."

"Well, you could meet them somewhere near your school."

"Oh, well my friends mom has a coffee shop less than two blocks away. It's called Jane's coffee and donuts. The lack of originality in the name is made up for in the diversity of their menu."

"Alright. They'll meet you there say twn after three?"

"Sounds good. I sure hope that I'm not going to be kidnapped and shipped off to a foreign place instead, though."

"Thanks for the idea." He jokes.

"No problem. Can I have my coffee first."

"You're too young to be drinking coffee."

"I would be if I ever slept at all. Bye."

"Bye."

I open the doors to the coffee shop and they chime, welcoming me into the familiar café.

"Hi, hun." Ms.Ellis says when she sees me. "How was your day at school?" She asks, folding her cloth and lifting the spray.

"Pretty good. How was your day?"

"Not bad. Can I get you anything?"

"Um, just a cup of coffee, please."

"Sure. Are you meeting Steph here?" I shake my head.

"I'm actually meeting-"

"Scout?" I turn my head around and spot three woman at a table by the window.

"Go right ahead. I'll be over in a moment with your coffee." I smile and thank her before making my way to the table and putting my bag down beside the chair, my book on the table since I don't have space in my bag.

"Hey." I say, sliding into the seat. "You must be Renée." I say to the tall lady with darker skin. She looks very kind.

"Yes. And Scout. Nice to finally meet you."

"You too."

"So you go to the school down the road." I nod.

"Yes, I do. It's not too far from here which is nice because I can come after school." I say, trying to hold ups conversation, being as social awkward as I am.

"That does sound nice."

"So did you guys have rehearsal today?"

"We did. And a long one. We ran through eight songs and it took several hours. I think we were all just tired and goofing off too much."

"I think the show just has so many songs that it sounds less productive when it's just as much. I mean. In many other musicals that could even be like half of the songs."

"That's very true. It just seemed slower than usual."

"Well that's why you need caffeine in your system." I say with a smile.

"Because what would this girl do without her Caffeine?" Ms.Ellis says, handing me a cup.

"Thanks, Ms.Ellis. In a to go cup."

"I know you well enough by now." She says before walking away.

"So what book are you reading."

"Oh." I say, taking my folded arms off the table. "Flowers for Algernon."

"Good book. How do you like it?"

"It's pretty great. I've been meaning to read it for years but for some reason I kept just reading others." We talk for a while, mainly about how they got to the show and what they thought that they would do when they were younger, as well as their training. They're all really inspiring and original. I'm caught completely off guard when Pippa asks about my brother.

"He's nineteen. A freshman in college. He took a year after high school just to work and regain custody of me." They nod.

"Well, he's been raising you very nicely. You're very mature. It's been a pleasure talking to you."

"The pleasure was all mine. I hope you guys have a good show tonight."

"Thanks." Two of them say.

"Scout?" Pippa asks.

"Yeah?"

"What's your real name."

"Nothing like Scout." I say, fixing my blazer and then putting my backpack on my shoulder. I lift and hold my cup in my hands half drank, ready to be finished as I walk.
