Vanessa isn't here when I get back which I expected because She gave a key. She left a note saying she'd be back in a bit, Lin seems better but she didn't wake him, and to call her if I need anything. I put the bag down and take out the medicine. I go back to what I guess is my room and take out my school stuff, starting to study.
An hour later, I hear Lin get up and I return to the kitchen.
"Morning." I say when he enters.
"Morning."
"Medicine?"
"I'm feeling better, thanks. I just needed some sleep." I nod.
"Vanessa's out."
"She sent me a text. Have you had breakfast."
"Yeah, earlier this morning. But I can make a killer omelet if you'd like."
"What about for dinner?"
"Breakfast for dinner?"
"Yep. I'm craving cereal and I know that you're doing something right now but I wanna try it tonight."
"How do you know if I was doing something."
"I know you."
"I was memorizing the inner transition elements."
"Knock yourself out. Be ready to leave in an hour and a half."
"What for?" I ask as he grabs the cereal from the cabinet.
"Pippa and Jazzy are helping you find some clothes and we need to get some stuff so that your room has color."
"Not necessary."
"Is too. Don't fight me."
"And you're really better?"
"I am. Now go study."
"You should take this anyways. Incase you feel sick later. It won't do you any harm if you're not sick but if you are, it will help." I say, passing him the medicine. He smiles. "Thanks. Go study."
"Praseodymium, 59, 140.908." I say really fast before leaving the room.
-
"Hey, kiddo." Pippa says as I slide into my seat in the back of a car."Why aren't we taking the train?"
"Makes it easier. Sorry Renée couldn't come."
"It's cool. She has kids. In fact, you guys shouldn't be taking time out of your days for me."
"Nonsense. I've always wanted to dress up a little girl." Jazzy says, smiling back at me from the front seat.
"I'm not a little girl." She shrugs.
"You're small." I chuckle and turn my attention to the study guide in my hand. "I'm sorry, what?"
"Huh?" I ask, looking back up.
"I said you're small and you laughed."
"Well, it was a joke."
"Yeah, the clothing part of it was but like the small part you weren't laughing at, right?"
"Yeah." I say, trying to sound convincing.
"You're still studying. No studying allowed on this trip."
"But if I stop I'll lose momentum."
"You're plenty prepared for the rest if the year."
"I'm plenty prepared for half of my first class." I exaggerate.
"Put it down."
"Fine."
-
"But why do I need a jacket then?" I ask, standing by a rack."Because this one is for rain." Pippa says.
"But why can't I wear it when I'm dry."
"Because that's what the other jackets for."
"But why not just use one."
"Because they're made out of different materials."
"Than why not find one that works as both? And I already have a jacket."
"Not a rain one."
"But I don't need the other one."
"It's lighter."
"But winters coming." She rolls her eyes and puts both jackets in the basket. A rain and "fall" one.
"Lin gets an allowance. He told us to spend it. We need to spend it on things."
"Like feeding me."
"Oh, sweaters. Pick five."
"What?"
"Plus they're on sale."
"I have two sweaters." They ignore me and push me into the isle. I pick out an off white knitted one, one navy blue zip up one with a dinosaur in the upper left hand corner, and one that's have burgundy and half white.
"That's less than five." Jazzy says.
"Two plus three equals five."
"I found some." Pippa says, returning to the basket.
"I don't think we need her here."
"Yeah, we really don't." I laugh.
"Well, I don't have a sense of style. I wear a uniform."
"Then we'll pick some stuff for you. But you have to stop asking us a million questions and saying that you don't need it."
"I could go get a milkshake."
"Meet us back here."
"Yay." I say, happy because I really want one.
