"Well, you're not gonna see the show in that, silly." Jazzy says, taking my hand and dragging me into the chair in her dressing room.

"Why not?"

"Because I get to dress up a teenager."

"I have no figure."

"And she acts older."

"You don't know me all too well, then. Renée spins me to look at her.

"No greasy skin or acne. No braces."

"I went through that shit already. It didn't help that I felt the need to always wear glasses."

"You're lucky. You got out of it early." Jazzy says, spinning the chair back to the mirror.

"All you have to do is gain some weight and then you'll practically be an adult."

"I'm a sophomore." And I'm not gonna gain weight. I don't need to. I'm disgusting.

"Do you know how to do anything other than mascara?"

"Yes." She takes out a few things and sets them before me.

"Have fun."

"What?"

"Put on make up. Do you want me to do your hair?"

"Thanks but-"

"The brush is right there, elastics in the corner, and pins in the box. I'll be back in a bit." She turns and leaves the room without saying anything else.

"What was that about?"

"You always look so- I don't know- schooly."

"Schooly?"

"It's not a bad thing. She just wants to see you dolled up. So do we. Be a girl and have some fun! Teenagers are supposed to live this stuff."

"And they're supposed to despise education." She laughs and puts the foundation in my hand.

"Just put some on." I start with that and then contour before eyeshadow and mascara. I don't use the eyeliner she set before me. Pippa gives me a more subtle one.

"Aren't you supposed to be discouraging this."

"If it were the kind of thing you cared more about then school, yeas. But it's Friday and I say that you go to a party after this, break all your par- brothers rules, and then do your homework this weekend." I laugh.

"Maybe I should." I say, sarcastically.

"Is there one?" I shrug. Brushing my hair. "So that's a yes. Let me guess. Conner is going?"

"Actually, I'm not even sixteen yet, I can still get the kids menu at most places by how I look, and there's always alcohol.

"With make up, you look much older." I tie the front strands in the back so that they don't get in my face before going into the bathroom and changing info a seafoam green dress, tighter around the waste, and lose below that. It's a little big but I pin it and then put on my thin chocker that I brought incase I went to that party. It's a black cord with a charm hanging from it. I do look older.

"Wow. That's much different from your uniform." Pippa says when I exit. She's in the hallway, getting back from getting her mic. "I thought looked beautiful in just school clothes. I didn't know you could look even more gorgeous."

"Thanks but-"

"No buts. Just agree with me on this. Let's go see Lin."

"He's getting ready-" she takes my hand anyways and drags me down the hallway and up the stairs, despite my protesting.

"Who's this gorgeous girl? I thought we already had one coming tonight. You found another?" He says when he opens the door.

"Thanks but-"

"No buts!" Pippa says, again. Lin's eyes glide down to my forearm.

"What happened here?"

"Oh. I broke it a two months ago. The doctor says that it will probably be fine in the next few.

"Be careful with that."

"I will."

"Enjoy the show, okay?"

"You know I will."

"I sure hope. Hey, I think you owe us a name, though."

"Faye."

"Is your name?"

"My last name."

"Well, it's a step closer. Scout Faye. What could her real name be?"

"Is Scout not enough?"

"Well, as much as I like calling you a nickname, it can only be one, if I know your real one. If not, that's just a nickname. So let's make a deal now. You will tell me your name some time. What's it gonna take?" I glance off, wondering what to do.

"It ends with an 'E.'"

"Oh come on. That's almost worse because now I just know one letter of it." I laugh. "You should get to your seat. The show's starting soon."

"And you should get to stage."

"See ya around."

"Bye."

"Why do you always say 'bye' instead of 'see you later' or somethings."

"How will I know if I'll see you again?"

"You will. And not just from an audience seat in ten minutes." Yay.
