I showed Stella her room. She went straight to bed without another word.

I woke up to the sound of my grand piano being played. It takes me a while to realize I'm in my basement still. Lazily I climb the stairs. In the living room I see Stella sitting and playing the ever haunting cords of my song ‘Pool of Tears’. She reaches the chorus once more and begin to sing by habit.

"Because Baby it just ain’t the same without you...’

I stop realizing the music has also stopped. "Sorry." she says. Stella looks somewhat startled. "It's fine. Play anytime you want." I say, giving her a soft smile to show her I'm not mad. She weakly smiles back. "Do you know anything else?" I ask, for once in my life breaking the silence instead of waiting for other to do so. "Well I do know Piano Man.  My parents used to dance around the kitchen to that song with me when I was little. It's their favorite song." Stella quickly realized what she had said and grew sad. She then added, "It was their favorite." Tears formed in her eyes and threatened to spill. "I-I didn't mean to upset you..." I said trailing off. "No, it fine." she whispered, "Excuse me." Stella then runs up stairs and I hear a door slam.

I don't know what to say to Stella, so I let her have some alone time. After my ex-girlfriend Ally dumped that's all I wanted. Solitude. Sometimes that's what you need to get through things. I sat down at my piano and started to play Hospital Stay. It's a song I wrote when my best friend was in a really bad wreck, he made it out pretty banged up.

I had tears in my eyes by the time I was finished. I turned around to see Stella behind me. "Sorry about earlier..." she said. Her voice rough and hours from crying. I stand up and hug her tightly. She tenses up for a minute and hugs me back. She sits on the couch and put in my one of my favorite British horror movies ‘The Children’. The previews flash by as I make Stella and I hot chocolate. Just as I return the movie is about to start. She sips on her the drink as I cover us with blankets. Stella doesn't seem to notice anything around. I'm not sure she's even focused on the movie. There's a strange look in her eyes that tells me she's in her own little world. A dark one at that.
