"Doctor? What are we going to do?" Abby asks as she shuts the door behind her.

"Save your people." The doctor says turning knobs and dials.

"How?" Abby asks.

"Well. That's the question isn't it?" The doctor stops what he is doing and leans against the TARDIS console. "You see that's just it. I could save your people. I would have to wipe out an entire clan but I could do it. Either side I choose, someone has to die. Either Azgeda or Skaikru." The doctor stays silent then jogs to stand in front of Abby, "how do I choose?" The doctor puts his hands on Abby's shoulders "how is it fair that I have to play God? No one should have that right but here we are. Choosing who lives and who dies." The doctor walks over to the TARDIS console and leans back against it, "so who do I choose? How do I choose?"

Abby walks over to him and leans against the console by him. "I don't know you but you seem like the type of man to do the right thing even if it feels wrong." When the doctor says nothing, Abby continues, "like a leader."

"I'm no leader. I'm not a good guy. I've let people I love vanish from my thoughts. From my mind and for what? So I can forget the pain? The torture? The memories?" The doctor sits in silence but eventually continues, "no I'm no good guy Abigail. I'm barely a person. But you? You are so good, so caring."

"You don't know me doctor." Abby says.

The doctor smiles, "I know more than you think." The doctor pulls a lever and the TARDIS takes off through time and space. "Which is why I'm going to save you. You and your people."

Abby smiles at the doctor and he smiles back at her. The TARDIS lands.

"Where are we?" Abby asks.

"Azgeda territory. About 65 years ago."

"When now?" Abby asks.

"65 years ago. Azgeda is beginning their rise to the top of the food chain. Their army grows along with their power. Yet they do not have a nightblood that is heda of the coalition. Interesting."

"So what are we going to do?"

The doctor smiles, "meet the neighbors!"

The doctor runs out of the TARDIS, Abby hot on his heels. "Doctor!" Abby calls out to him.

Azgeda members surround them. "Hello, my friends!" The doctor greets, "I'm the doctor!"

"And who do you think you are to trespass on Azgeda land?" A woman asks as steps forth.

"You must be Lehka." The doctor says.

"I am and why does it concern you?" The woman asks.

A small child runs up to the woman and hugs her legs. "Nia. Please go train with the rest of the seconds." The woman says.

The little girl's smile turns into a frown but she runs off to go train.

"Nia?" Abby asks.

"Yes. Nia. The daughter of Lehka. The future queen of Azgeda." The doctor says.

"Hopefully." Queen Lehka says, "at this rate she'll be lucky to be a servant."

The doctor chuckles, "may me and my companion have a word in private?" The doctor asks.

"I don't see why not. This way." Queen Lehka says as she leads them into her tent.

"You should have more faith in her." The doctor says.

"Who?" Lehka says.

"Nia. She's stronger than you think." The doctor says.

"Ha!" Lehka says, "she's weak. She'll never survive the conclave."

"Maybe that's the point of your raising though. Toughen her up? Is that what you are trying to do?" The doctor asks.

"Have you ever had children doctor?" Lehka asks.

"Yes. Once upon a time." The doctor says, smiling.

"Have you ever lost one?" Lehka asks as the doctor loses his smile. Lehka continues, "all it takes is one. That pain can't be forgotten. Ever."

"Nia isn't your first?" The doctor asks.

"No. She had an older sister but she died when she was twelve. Her name was beta. I watched as Trikru drove a spear through her chest. The blood flowed out of her body like a river."

"I'm sorry." The doctor says.

Lehka turns around toward the doctor. "That's why I treat Nia the way I do. To ensure that she survives."

"You fail." The doctor says.

"What?" Lehka says.

"Nia dies." The doctor says.

"No. You're lying."

"I swear. I wouldn't lie about this. Not a child's life." The doctor says.

"Prove it." Lehka says.

"Come with me." The doctor says, holding out his hand.

Lehka takes his hand and the doctor leads her back to the TARDIS. Abby follows close behind.

"Are you sure you want to see your daughter's future?" The doctor asks.

"I want to see Nia." Lehka says.

"Alright then." The doctor says as he pulls a lever.
