I was completely happy with my life! Bo had proposed and I had accepted; now I was planning my wedding with Tammi Sue, Belynda and Jana, Bo's mama.
Even Charity had gotten used to the idea of Bo and I; and besides she seemed to really be getting on with Walker. They both acted happy with each other.
Jana came to my house, picked us up and we headed into town searching for my dress and bridesmaids dresses.
"Come on girls! Times wasting away! Chop, chop!" Jana called as our giggling gaggle piled into her suburban.
"Mercy Rae I thought we'd go to the bakery first; they have so graciously set up a tasting for us and Buck and I are buying the cake; this is our wedding gift to you and Bo."
I'll admit I teared up a bit. "Oh Jana that is so sweet of y'all" I told her smiling. Reaching over she gave my hand a little pat and squeeze.
"There's something else too" Jana said. I turned slightly in the seat so I could face her more directly.
"I know that you and Charity have been on shaky ground but I know her mama and she has asked me, on behalf of Charity, to let her help with the wedding decor.
I've seen other parties she's done and Merci I don't think you'll find anyone that will do a finer job."
I looked over at Belynda and Tammi Sue; both girls just taking in my expression. Then I looked back at Bo's mom.
"Jana I will give her a chance but if she tries anything, I will pull out a can of whoop ass on her; I will not allow her to come in between Bo and I; plus I won't allow her to hurt Walker."
Jana sighed in relief as my girlfriends just glared at me. I giggled a bit before Tammi Sue noogied my arm.
"Hey bitch!" I laughed reaching back trying to tickle her but after the expression we all got from Jana we knew we had to behave.
It didn't take us long to reach Fun With Cakes the one and only bakery and cafe in Canadian but Jana swore up and down their cakes were better than any bigger bakery in other towns.
An older, red haired lady met us at the door with a huge smile and ushered our group to the back of the bakery.
When we reached the room, it was colder than the rest of the shop; helped keep the frosting from getting too warm.
Lydia, the owner and main baker, had set up little, delicate round cloth covered tables; set up with the finest china, linen napkins and antique silverware.
"Lydia darling" Jana said as she embraced the older lady. "Mrs. Jana welcome; and you must be Ms. Mercy Rae, the bride?" Her demeanor and smile sat me at ease immediately.
Lydia went on to explain as she seated us that she was going to give us four options only; she did not want to burden us down and stress us out with umpteen options. I wholeheartedly agreed with her on this.
"This first one is my favorite. It is a fresh lemon cake, with lemon zest in the mix, and a filling of fresh raspberry puree. The frosting is a light lemony cheesecake flavor and of course we can decorate it any way you like."
The small room was filled with moans of pleasure as we dug our forks into the moist and succulent cake; each of us excitedly spewing what we liked best about this particular cake.
We had all concurred that we had no interest in tasting the other cakes but for Lydia's sake and all of her hard work we went ahead and sampled the other three cakes.
One was chocolate on chocolate; now don't get me wrong. I love chocolate as much as the next gal but there was something to be said about 'too much of a good thing.'
