Scenario number twoSpecial Characters: Gemma, May, Matthew, Alvin.
Meanwhile, Gemma Sminters and May McConnell ramble about the upcoming volleyball tournament that they will be participating in this Saturday.
"I'm so excited!" May squeals with delight, flipping her newly dyed strawberry blonde hair, "especially since Alvin is coming to watch the game."
Gemma laughs at May's statement. Alvin Carter is May McConnell's boyfriend, and he's all May could ever talk about. Sometimes it gets annoying, but Gemma understands, considering she's in a relationship with someone as well. Even though it's not so happy.
"Will your Prince Charming watch the tournament?" May questions Gemma. They're both in the student lounge, which is where they occasionally hang out before classes start. The student lounge is a wide room full of tables and chairs where students don't normally hang out in due to it having no AC.
The question makes Gemma pause for a split second. "Matthew will go." Gemma forcefully answers, a little uneasy and uncomfortable. They're both seated on the floor, refusing to use the furnitures. They're at the very corner of the room so that whoever passes by won't be able to see them, considering the chairs and tables are preventing them from being seen.
May notices her best friend's change of expression — from proud to sad. "Hey, what's wrong?" May lowers her voice, "did the two of you have a fight?"
Gemma shrugs her shoulders, her bronze eyes gleaming. "I just think that he's acting strange lately, and when your boy does that... The reason is often because he has another girl or something." Gemma and Matthew have been having problems lately, and May would always tell Gemma that there might be something going on in Matthew's mind that he's not telling her about.
"Not always, Gem. Maybe he's busy with school? Maybe he's got problems at home, who knows?" May gives her a reassuring smile, "you guys will be fine."
Gemma genuinely smiles at her, grateful that she has a best friend like May, who is always there by her side. Even when she doesn't know what I'm truly capable of, Gemma says to herself.
May's smile slowly fades when she notices two familiar figures behind Gemma's back due to the transparent glass on the door, their giggles distant yet so... clear.
May blinks when she recognizes a fellow junior in Harcott High, cupping Matthew Winsmart's face with a flustered look. The lovebirds don't even see Gemma and May since they're too caught up with each other. Before May can say anything, Gemma hugs her.
"Thanks, May. I don't know what I'd do without you." Gemma utters, pleased.
May doesn't say anything, her eyes widening as soon as she sees Matthew press his lips against the junior, who returns the kiss passionately.
What the hell? May pulls away from their embrace, alarmed. "Gemma—"
"What's wrong? Is there something bothering you?" Gemma turns to follow May's gaze, who immediately takes her hand and squeezes it for comfort.
Gemma gasps at the sight of her boyfriend and another girl making out hungrily, not even noticing that the student lounge has company too. She feels her heart shatter, slowly pulling her hand away from May's.
"I think it's best if we don't cause drama, just break up with him later." May advises her soothingly in a whisper. "He's not worth it, Gem, I promise. Don't make a scene."
Gemma shifts her eyes to May. "I have every right to cause a scene," her voice comes out powerful even when it isn't loud, "he can't just do that to me. He just can't." Her voice cracks.
"Gemma—" Before May can say anything, Gemma has already stood up, making her way to Matthew and the girl he's making out with. Matthew flinches, shocked when Gemma pushes the girl away from him.
She stares at her 'boyfriend' with rage all over her expression. Her eyes reflect another emotion — sadness. Matthew opens his mouth to say something, maybe even make up a dumb excuse, but Gemma doesn't even give him a chance to say more lies.
"THIS IS WHAT YOU CALL LOVE!?" She slaps him hard, hurt. Behind her, May clears her throat.
The girl Matthew has been kissing earlier slowly backpedals, making sure not to cause any more trouble as she dashed out of the student lounge in a hurry, knowing better than to mess with a senior in the volleyball team.
May immediately bolts across the lounge, raising both her hands up like the peacemaker she is. "Okay," she begins with a soft voice, "Matthew, please explain why—"
With a horrified look on his face, Matthew bolts out of the lounge without letting May complete his sentence.
May frowns. What an idiot. She turns to Gemma. "Let's get to class now? Let's deal with him later—"
Gemma doesn't let her finish. She starts sprinting, yelling out "WE'RE NOT DONE YET, BITCH!" across the hallway.
May sighs, tsk. Love.
"I've been looking for you." May hears an upsetting voice. She whirls and sees Alvin.
May lets our a thin smile, even though Alvin's her boyfriend, she feared him whenever he'd get upset. She never told anyone about Alvin hitting her whenever she would do something wrong. However, she accepted his flaws and his terrible doings because she loved him.
"You should text me," Alvin says to her warily, "if you come here early. Why didn't you respond to my texts?" He takes her right arm, "who were you with?"
"I was with Gemma," May answers through gritted teeth, yanking her arm calmly. "My phone's in my bag. It's not always in my hand, you know."
Alvin looks at her expectantly. May forces a smile. "I'm sorry, Alvin," she forces out a sigh, "I should have—"
"Whatever." Alvin batts her away, rolling his eyes. "I'm gonna head to History. Good luck on that Calculus test." He kisses her cheek quickly before walking away, leaving his girlfriend.
