The loud ringing of my alarm clock aroused me from my sleep on a chilly October morning. I groaned and rolled over to silence the annoying sound.
7:00 a.m. was the time. I groaned again before slowly dragging myself out of bed. I hated the early mornings. But nevertheless, I had to be ready for school.
I put on a pair of purple skinny jeans with a cozy black sweater. I put my hair up in a ponytail and headed downstairs for breakfast.
When I had made my way downstairs I was surprised to find my father sitting at the kitchen table, his laptop open with a coffee mug beside it.
"Oh! Hi Dad!" I said, a slight tone of surprise to my voice.
My parents had gotten a divorce three years ago, and since then, I rarely saw my father. My parents still love each other, but they realized that they were better just as good friends, and that marriage wasn't the best type of relationship for them. This being the case, my father stopped by here and there to see how we were doing, but mostly he left us alone because he recognized that my mother needed some space.
"Hey sweetheart! How are you doing these days?" my dad kindly replied.
"Oh, you know. School." I said as I ate a leftover cinnamon bun. "Where's mom?"
"She left for work. I'll have to get going in a minute, but I just thought I'd stop by and make sure everything was okay here."
I nodded as swallowed the last of my breakfast.
Wiping my mouth with a paper napkin, I said, "Well, I should be heading out to the bus stop. It was nice seeing you."
I gave my dad a hug before grabbing my backpack and going out to the bus stop.
"Love you, Hailey." my dad said.
"Love you too.", I said with a smile. Then I ran down the street to catch the big yellow bus.

The school day had gone by as slowly as I believe a day could possibly go by. My best friend, well really, my only friend, Leah, had been out sick. Since she was the main person I talked too, that meant I spent most of the day alone.
See...I was never a popular girl. I wasn't exactly a nerd either though. Ryan Clack had asked my to go to prom with him last year after all, and he was somewhat popular. I didn't want to go though. It's not that I didn't like him, I'm just not really into dances and such.
I know I'm a bit strange, but having a boyfriend was never a priority. I do find boys attractive, but I'm not thirsty to go out on dates and have my first kiss etc... Leah was like me in that way, and I guess that's why we're best friends. Yes, I was a bit weird and different from the world, but I'm okay with that. My completely normal life was fine for me.
But here's what confused me. Everyone told me that I was special. They said that I was special and that something important was in store for me later in life. Even though it was hard, I tried to believe what they said. Because in spite of my very un-special (if you will) life, maybe something important was going to happen to me after all. I just had to wait and see.
