~Ace~

"Mom?" I called out as I entered my house. My mom's head appeared from the kitchen door.

"Ace." She smiled. Mom's smile was warm and friendly. Too warm and friendly. My mom was the strongest woman I've ever met. After all the things that happened to her, after all the tragedies she had faced, she could still smile.

"Hey mom." I smiled back. "What's for dinner?"

Mom chuckled. "You can tell, right? Your sense of smell are greater than a dog's."

"Spaghetti." I said. "Do we have any visitors?" Mom would usually cook easy dishes like fried fish or chicken for dinner. She only cooked meals like spaghetti when there were visitors.

"Oh, your brother's classmates are coming for a group project. They're staying for the night." Mom said, reading my thoughts as I dumped my bag on a counter. Mom always had a special ability to read minds of the people around her. I once asked her how she could do it but she just smiled at me. Since then, I dropped the idea of even knowing how does she do it.

I opened the fridge and grabbed a bottle of Coca-Cola. I popped its lid open and hastily drank a large portion of it with only one gulp. "Axel and friends?"

Axel's my little brother and my only sibling. He's like a smaller and chubbier version of me and we get along quite well. If teasing and pranking each other nonstop is what you consider 'getting along quite well'.

Mom nodded. "They just left. They just bought something for their project."

"Are you sure?" I asked. Mom and I both knew that Axel and his friends were not ONLY buying stuff for their project. They were a stubborn little group, and everyone knew that. We just keep quiet about it. Don't wanna burst their thin bubble, right?

Mom grinned. "I told them that if they don't come back in 20 minutes, I'll kick them out of my house." She placed a plate of spaghetti at the counter beside me and grinned. "In another language, that means that they won't be able to eat my spaghetti."

"Everyone loves your spaghetti." I said and we burst into laughter.

Mom was right, Axel (and friends) came home at least 20 minutes later. As soon as his friend stepped on our house, the house was filled with their loud voices and laughter.

"Why are they so noisy?" I complained. Mom was preparing the plates of dinner. I helped her as I tried to ignore the noise.

"Are you sure that you're the one to complain? You and your friends are much noisier than Axel and his friends." Mom chuckled.

"What? We're not that noisy!" I protested. "Are we?"

Mom raised an eyebrow. "Are you?" She said in a sarcastic tone.

"I don't think so. I think we speak in our normal voices." I shrugged.

"Then that's exactly what they think right now. They don't realize that they're noisy the same way you don't realize that you're noisy." Mom explained. "Oh and Ace, can you please get the spaghetti in the kitchen. It's in the red bowl at the counter."

"Okay, Okay." I walked to the kitchen and immediately saw a red bowl. I opened the lid and checked if it was spaghetti. Yup, it's spaghetti. I lifted the bowl and walked out of the kitchen. When mom saw me enter the dinning room, she gestured me to place the bowl in the center of the table, which I did. She thanked me and asked me to call Axel and friends for dinner.

"Axel, you little idiot. Food's ready." I said as I shook his shoulders. He groaned and slapped my hands away from him and stuck out his tongue on me.

His friends and I were about to leave the living room when I saw a person at the corner of my eye. I turned my head. Even though I couldn't see it, I knew that my face was distorted into an ugly expression. I glared at the person. I was about to shout at her when Axel grabbed my arm.

"Well, you look ugly." He snickered. "I'm eating all the spaghetti if you're not coming."

"Then eat it." I said in a rushed voice. "Eat it, I don't give a damn."

"Fine!" Axel turned around and left.

I walked towards the person who wore all red. A red cocktail dress, red shoes, red lipstick and even her irises were red. "What are you doing here?" I hissed at Ira.

"Ace, why the hostility in your voice?" She chuckled. "Don't you miss me?"

"You b!tch!" I tried to keep my voice down. If my mom hears me saying that word, I won't ever see daylight again.

"Calm down, Ace." Ira frowned.

"What are you even doing here? I told you--" I started.

"Alice." She said tonelessly.

I froze. "Alice...?" My voice came out like a terrified whimper. "What do you mean Alice?" I asked even though I knew what was coming. My legs felt like it turned into jelly and it was hard not to fall on my butt. Not again, please. Not again.

"Alice is my puppet. Whether I like it or not." Ira said bluntly. "Whether you like it or not."
