Ugh ! Moving day. Not again ! Come on. Yes I was moving a second time, why may you ask ? Both of my parents had new jobs, I loved my hometown, Hi, I guess I should just introduce myself before I forget. I'm Mona Jacks, a seventeen year old teenager.
Then there was my loving parents, who sometimes weren't so... loving. Andy and Tess Jacks were good parents towards me, I loved them of course. Mom was fairly attractive, she had short brown wavy hair and pale green eyes. I truly loved her eyes, they reminded me of the sea.
Dad who had no hair, well shaved I should say. Dad hates if you call him baldy. Like I was saying, dad had shaved hair and had green eyes. His eyes always reminded me of grass on a summer day. Then of course there was me... long thin brown hair that was awful, and I had blue eyes.
Nothing reminded me of them to anything, I guess maybe the ocean or the sky. Where was I ? Oh yes, moving day. It was mid September. I hated moving, I hated that we had to move away, I'd really miss my friends ! Let's really define "friends".
My friends weren't other teenagers my age, but the elder people and the staff from the bookstore were my friends. I guess I should tell you my biggest downfall ? You might already know since I had said the word bookstore. Yeah, books were my downfall.
You might say I was a book nerd. To be honest... I was a nerd, glasses in all. Black rimmed glasses, nothing cute like some type print or so, just simply black. Mom had that knack of saying I was cute wearing them. Come on mom I'm not cute. Nothing about me was "cute".
I was packing boxes in the back of the truck, as the neighborhood boys stared. "Thanks for the help guys" I called over at them. "Oh you're welcome Mona !" Lee called back, both Lee and Jamie sat on the curb watching.
"Oh but we just love watching you from here, great view" Jamie said. Oh great...a great view ! I knew what he meant, my underwear. Probably can see skin as well from bending over a lot. Well at least they couldn't see my underwear.
Both Lee and Jamie were very good looking, Lee was really coltish, but also muscly. Lee always had disheveled hair, thin but layered brown hair with his warm brown eyes. Jamie... he has blonde hair that was long but he always wore a giants baseball cap over it and had outstanding blue eyes.
I saw myself as simple, nothing attractive here. I was okay looking, I'll just say that. Climbing out of the back of the truck, I had strapped every bag down we had. "So you really moving Mona ?" Lee asked. "Do these bags and boxes saying nothing else to you ?" I asked him.
"No" he said. I glanced over at him. I sure wasn't going to miss them. Lee and Jamie weren't my friends, just two pesky guys nothing else. I didn't even like them, Lee the muscular one was always showing off to others, comparing his built body.
And Jamie... well he didn't compare to anything, he was skinny. Dad stepped out of our small one story house, wearing a red polo, shorts with long white socks along with sneakers. Gazing at his direction, I could hear Lee and Jamie holding back their laughing from dad's appearance.
Dad did dress oddly, but whatever. "Everything in ?" he asked walking up to the truck. "Yep, all tied down" I replied. "Good job, just about time to leave, so five more minutes, ok ?" he said walked off. Yeah dad, I know.
Dad and mom's new jobs were in San Diego, yay what fun ! Not. "What are you laughing at ?" I asked them as they busted out laughing. "Lordy Mona, your dad is so..." Lee said laughing. "He's so weird" Jamie finished his sentence as he laughed.
"Shut up you two" I said. Watching them get up, and laugh more I ignored them. Dad and mom then walked out of the door, Daisy and Pan came bounding out of the door and nearly knocked mom over. I swear those dog are the death of me.
Both Daisy and Pan were boxers, and both were very hyped up , non stop. Pan was more the rambunctious one than Daisy, but put them together... you have the energizer bunny, but two energizer bunnies. Pan was more the alpha, and Daisy was more the omega one.
Pan and Daisy weren't real siblings, dad had gotten Pan from a rescue shelter as a puppy, and Daisy from his bosses dog who had puppies. So there's their story. I eyed Lee and Jamie as dad said to put the dogs in the back seat, ugh... I had to sit next to them.
I did wish my brother was here. My older brother Max was away, not in the army, but he was really in Hollywood. You're probably wondering why he was there, am I right ? Well maybe wondering, idk. Max was an actor.
Yeah yeah I know, nothing big. Not long dad hooked up the u-haul to the truck and told us "ladies" mom and I really to get loaded into the truck. I glanced back at the house one last time as dad pulled out of the driveway.
Goodbye house. I could feel Pan's hot breath against my arm, I pushed him away. "So... Mona you excited for the new adventure ?" mom said. I had a feeling she was trying to glance at me in the small mirror. My head was tilted down I was staring at my cell's screen.
"Mona ?" "Huh ? What ?" I glanced up. "Are you excited for our new adventure ?" she asked again. "No" I told her. "I know sweetheart, new things, I know you don't handle new things" she said. Mom knew me so well, I hated new things.
There are two things I hated was seeing a random person at the supermarket and out of nowhere they suddenly ask you "What are you doing here ?" I'm like... oh just hunting elephants nothing out the ordinary.
The second was whenever I watched a scary movie, and the girl yells out "hello?" As if the bad guy is going to just say "yeah, I'm in the kitchen ! Want a sandwich ?" Come on. How can the girl be so stupid to ask if anyone's there ? There are so many things I hated.
Just nearly last week, mom told me to go clean my room were having people over, I was like what are we having a meeting in there or something ? Mom just laughed at that, I loved my mom and her humor, she knew so many jokes, it wasn't funny.
She should of been a comedian. Dad and mom began playing the licenses plate game, if you don't know it... your missing out. Rules are simple, find a licenses plate from a different state, call it out before the other person, and quickly hit their shoulder before they get it.
Mom and dad love playing it, also they loved playing Mad Libs. Mad Libs was the world's greatest word game, object of the game is to make up silly words and can be anything. Glancing out the window, we past the Welcome sign, Welcome to Spring Creek, thinking that was the last time I'd see it ever.
Many hours later.
"Mona wake up were at a rest stop" a gentle voice said. Opening my eyes, sunlight poured through my window. "Where are we ?" I asked groggily. "We're in Roseburg" mom told me. "Roseburg ? um... ok" I said sitting up and arching my back to stretch it out.
I slept slumped over in my seat, now my back was hurting from that odd position. Glancing over at the driver seat, dad wasn't there. "Where's dad ? and the dogs ?" I asked noticing them gone too. "Over there" mom pointed out. Seeing dad had taken the dogs out on their leash.
"How many hours to go ?" I asked eyeing outside the window. "Let's see" she said. Mom pulled up the GPS to look. "Oh dear I think I pushed the wrong button" she sighed. Just then the other door on dad's side opened, and Pan bounded into the seat whacking me with his tail.
"Ow, geez Pan, chill "I told him as he turned towards me panting up a storm. "Get in Daisy" dad snapped his fingers at her. Daisy jumped into the seat next to Pan, I felt their hot breaths on my bare skin. "Ugh scoot over Pan" I told him as I pushed him away.
"Someone's up I see" dad said. "Hun, I think I did something to the GPS" mom told him. "Oh, it's ok dear" he said fixing it. Mom and dad really loved each other. I could tell how, they always smiled at each other and held hands like a cute couple would.
I believe that mom and dad had true love, I never did believe that true love did exist, but I guess it can if you have the right exact person who is your best friend. Mom would always tell me, when you meet that right person, your mind and heart will know what's real.
Where was I ? Oh. Yeah. Moving, blah. "Okay Mona... you got fifteen minutes to come up with a restaurant for lunch" dad explained. I hated this game, you get an amount of time to think of a restaurant and quickly say it. "Time's ticking..." he said.
