It was the next day, all I wanted to do was hide myself and never come out. I didn't tell anyone of what happened. It was Sunday and mom and dad had been invited to one of the neighbors who they work with, to a beach cookout they suggested I should go with them but I didn't feel like it.

Of course I had gone, I didn't even want to go, mom thought I'd have fun, the people inviting us had a private beach behind their house. Super. Walking down the street, I slowly but surely following behind as they talked. Ugh.

I kept sighing, why was I going again ? "Hurry up Mona" Mom glanced back at me. "Ugh mom I don't know these people" I told her. "They say they have kids around your age" Dad said. Not long dad pushed the bell and a middle aged woman answered.

"Hey welcome" she opened the door enough for us to enter. "Hi Ira" mom said as they hugged. "Ira this is our daughter Mona" mom introduced. "Pleased to meet you Mona, please make yourself at home, there's food outback and everyone is scattered" she told me.

Mom followed Ira around, dad as well followed but seeing him go outside to talk to someone. Glancing around, Ira was correct there were people standing around holding either plates of food, their red solo cups and talking up a storm.

Seeing a young girl, maybe around my age on her cell sitting on a bay window seat. She had short short blonde hair, she was wearing yellow overalls with a white t-shirt under it, she was bare foot. She seemed at home here. Was she one of the "kids" of Ira ?

"Ellie" I heard Ira. "What ?" "Entertain the guests young lady" Ira said. "Fine" she got up and walked off. "Oh Mona, how are you liking the party ?" Ira turned to see me standing there. "Don't worry about her, that's my daughter Ellie" Ira added. "It's nice" I said.

"Great" she smiled reveling her white teeth, I could tell she used Colgate tooth paste, funny thing to notice on a person. Ira herself was wearing tan slacks and a black comfy shirt with some black flats. She looked maybe about early forties.

Standing at the punch bowl I bumped into her daughter Ellie. "Sorry" I said. "It's ok" she said reaching for a solo cup. "I'm Mona" I told her. "Ellie, one of my mom's kids" she said sipping the fruit punch. "How many siblings do you have ?" I asked.

"Four, over there in the corner is my oldest sister with her fiance' Alec, I have a brother named Jonas, another brother Kip, and then there's me the youngest" she told me. "Wow" I said. "You got siblings ?" she asked. "One, a older brother" I told her.

"Must be nice to have one, what's his name ?" Ellie asked me. "Max" I told her. "Cool" she said. "How old are you ?" she asked me. "Seventeen" I told her. "I'm seventeen too" she said. "It's a good age" I said. "Ex-actually" she smiled.  Ellie and I talked for a while.

We were deep in conversation about the new movie, Stephen King's It, "omg there's Cole" she glanced across the room. "Come with me, I want you to meet him" she grabbed my hand and dragged me along. "Hey Cole" she said standing in front of him then breaking her hand away.

"Oh hi Ellie" he said but was eyeing me. "New friend ?" he asked her. "Well on terms, we just met, but her name is Mona" Ellie told him. "Huh... ok" he stammered. " Be back" I said. "Is he here too ?" I heard her ask him as I walked away.

Making my way down the hallway, there were great pictures hanging on both walls, must be their family wall. Finding the bathroom, I knocked first before going in then had locked it. After washing and coming out I nearly got ran into "watch it" he warned.

"Sorry" I said. "Mona didn't know where you went" seeing Ellie as she stopped next to me. "Oh I was using the bathroom" I told her. I followed her back into the living room it seemed more crowded then before.
