Luke's POV
The rest of the day proved to be uneventful until I had to go to 7th period, which was lunch. Shoving all of my binders into my locker and pulling out a brown paper bag with the lunch my mom made me (I told her I'm not in middle school anymore but she refused to listen), I shut my locker and came face to face with the one and only Calum Hood.
Startled, I began to say,
"What the f-" Calum cut me off and laughed, apparently finding joy in scaring me.
"Dude, that was not funny," I managed to say, shaking my head at him. I guess you could say Calum is my first friend here. He started talking to me during music class and we basically went from there. I knew Calum was popular from all the weird stares I got from walking around with him. The new kid, befriending someone popular? How absurd! I tried not to get intimidated by the fact that he's way up on the social triangle that makes up this fucking school, but he seemed pretty friendly, which made me feel more comfortable.
Calum smirked at me, and rushed out,
"Hey, I'll show you to the cafeteria, if you can keep up!" Before I processed the words that flew out of his mouth, he was already halfway down the hallway. Damn, he's fast. I quickly started running after him, using my long legs to my advantage. After about two long strides, I was already gaining on Calum. I saw him turn around, his eyes widening.
"How the fuck?!" He wheezed out, trying to keep his fast pace. I smirked at him, and in three seconds we were running side by side, and I realized how lucky we were that no one was in the hallways to get in the way. I knew we'd be late to lunch no matter how fast we ran. I let myself run a little ahead of him, but I made sure I was taking the right turns to get to the cafeteria by looking behind me to see where Calum was going.
We both slowed down to a stop as we got the cafeteria. Calum breathed heavily, trying to catch his breath.
"I--how--you--" he managed between gulps of air. I chuckled,
"I played football at my old school." Once he stopped wheezing, he shook his head at me.
"I play football too, but I never could run like you just did. That was like, fucking superhuman powers or some shit," he smiled at me and added,
"You should sign up for football. It starts in April," I nodded.
"Yeah, I was planning on signing up." And with that, Calum headed into the overcrowded lunch room, as I trailed behind him.
The cafeteria was twice the size of the one at my other school, and that was saying something. Every lunch table seemed to be filled with students, and I was now very grateful that I had Calum, and I wasn't walking in here alone.
Calum nudged me with his elbow, pointing across the room.
"That's where I sit." I looked in the direction where he was pointing. The table was very crowded, and all the people sitting there came off as 'sporty' to me. My eyes drifted towards the table near it. The people sitting there scared the shit out of me- it seemed as though black was the only color they wore, and piercings and tattoos were normal. Calum followed my gaze and chuckled.
"Don't worry, they're cool." He assured me. I nodded, still a bit uncertain.
Calum led me over to his table, and he received a couple of 'hey's' while I got curious stares. Sitting down, Calum got everyone's attention by saying,
