The new home of the couple was of much more comfort and space. No longer were their belongings crammed in a way that was suitable. Items dispersed along the home quite well to fit the style of the building.
"What is this place?" Jimin asks as he steps out of the car. His dark eyes scan the home, his head tilts in confusion at the structure. Wheels turned in head and hints of smoke are ready to appear.
"This is where people live."
"Where the living live?"
I nod, it was exactly that. I put my hand on his petite shoulder and push him forward into the home that would soon be his. In front of us his brother glances with a concerned expression at his dumbfounded older brother. Jimin looks about the porch, examining the objects that make a comeback into his memory. I walk ahead inside to continue looking at all I haven't for so long. Items of Jimin's home were put about the home as well, pictures and such. The room was so much bigger than the old home of the couple, it truly was a home for a family of more than two. Jungkook and their incoming child would be expanding their family, the home suited them perfectly.
"Nice place you got Joon." I say as he walks into the room with a cardboard box. He smiles and set it down.
"I thought you'd like it. We're not done setting things up though. We only moved in last week but Jin's set up mostly all. That doesn't matter now though, bring him in so he can change."
"You can both use a shower." Jungkook whispers just right after I pass him. I roll my eyes but don't say anything, I'll make a mental note to bother him later.
Jimin stares out about the porch to the children walking across the street. Three children of all same genders laughed cheerfully, a sight adoring to the living, so not him. His face is blank, not a single emotion to shine through. It was an upsetting to see him look so bland at a sight I am sure he'd melt all over.
"What do think about them?" I ask in hopes that perhaps his expression does not tell the whole story.
He shrugs. "Nothing."
Apparently it does.
"I see. Well enough of stalking, you have to get cleaned up. Joon has some clean clothes for you to change into, I'll be gone when you finish so let's say our goodbye here."
I have made up my mind that it'd be best not to leave without letting him know. Considering his previous reaction I assume if I were to disappear all the sudden he'd go into a state of panic which was possible for the newly dead, it happened to Hoseok quite often when he was fresh out of the grave. I would give my final farewell to my love and leave to not harm him no more.
"No."
"Yes I am. I have no business here."
"I am your business here."
There he goes demanding again as if he has the right to. He's confusing with his plain tone but commanding words.
"You have them now, you don't need me and you never will. Trust me, you're better off here than with me. Listen Jimin and stay here, these people care for you."'
"And you don't?"
The words pain me so badly I can not find within myself to formulate a respond. I want to yell to him that I do, more than he knows so but I know I shouldn't. It's for the best that I don't but that doesn't stop me from reaching to pull him into an embrace. If this was really our goodbye I want to feel him in my arms just one last time.
"I know you don't want to go."
I don't but I must.
"Just stay here with me."
"I can't."
"You can but you're choosing not to."
I pull away to look into his once soft and charming eyes. Although no light were in them I still felt an attachment to them. I found them to be one of his best features next to his smile yet when I thought he lost them, he didn't. I still fell into the abyss of brown with no escape, nothing could pull me out once more.
"You don't have to go."
I do. I really do but I don't want to. I want nothing more than to stay with him on the porch to admire his beautiful eyes. I want to be able to keep hugging him like he was the missing part in my body.
"You don't have to so you're not going to. Come inside and get cleaned up."
I turn around to find Jin leaning against the frame of the door. A welcoming smile plays at his lips as he holds out his hand. Jimin looks at me then back at the outstretched limb, I motion for him to grab it. He doesn't so I make him take it.
"He's family, you'll be fine."
He goes with Jin, he spares me a glance before giving me his back. I watch as he climbs the stairs of the new home, his brother's eyes follow him. The young boy walks out on to the porch to join me. He doesn't speak for once, not a single sound emits from him.
"He'll remember you soon kid, he's fresh out of the grave. Don't expect much for the newly dead." I tell him to ease his suffering. No words must leave him to know that he was pained by the ignorance of his brother.
"Is that a saying you dead people have? Hoseok Hyung said the same in the car ride."
I nod to confirm his suspicion. 'Don't expect much from the newly dead' was a phrase used by the elders in the cemetery. Whenever anyone would crawl up they'd be bombarded with questions for some could remember but the majority could not. We'd scare them, causing them to hide away from the crazy corpse they perceived us as. I couldn't blame them, we all appeared to have a screw loose or missing all together. The memory of the old days brings a smile to my face I cannot suppress.
"The gray hair doesn't fit him too well, it's far too dead. I'm going to change it to brown." Jungkook says. He was right, the color death had given him was far too dark and depressing for someone like him. I agree with his decision and watch him walk off the newly owned property with his hands shoved in his empty pockets.
I pity the teenager, he'd lost so much in so little time. A mother then months later his brother.
"We're not letting you go so don't ponder too much on it."
Namjoon stands in the place where the two brothers once did. He sips from a bottle of water and sighs afterwards. He looks out about the lively grass of his lawn.
"He needs you here, don't abandon when he needs you most. I know you feel guilt but you can make up for that so do not us a favor. Do it for the boy and yourself, give yourself a second chance at a life. You gave me one, I think it's time you consider giving it to yourself."
The words of my friend circle my head once he leaves my side. I am left on my own in the strange place to admire from my dead eyes what belongs to the living.
