You entered the ship with your parents and your fiancé Cal. You had the honor to be at the first ship voyage of the Titanic, but probably just because your parents and your fiancé were very rich. The captain greeted you personally and showed you your rooms. Of course, your parents have divided a room and you and your fiancé divided one.
You went out of the room alone to explore the ship. The passing people smiled at you and you smiled back.
If these people knew what was going on in your life they wouldn't smile at you, they would look at you with pity. Why? Your parents had not so much money and you were engaged against your will with Cal because his family and he were rich. This would help your family with their money problems. Other people would think: Why did your parents do that? They want a good life for you.
You enter one of the big dining halls. Everything looked so luxuriously and noble. You went back outside and leaned against the railing. You enjoyed the sea air and the noises of the sea. You noticed that a person is next to you and saw your fiancé Cal who smiled at you slightly.
“Your parents have told me that we go out to eat with them today. At 7 pm we meet with them in front of the dining hall.” You nod briefly and walked away from the railing. You wanted to be alone and didn't wanted to pretend to be a happy couple with him.
You walked back into the ship and looked at the other premises on the boat. A little later you went back to your room and got ready for dinner.
“Where were you before?” Cal asked while he tied his white shirt. “I've looked around the ship. It's really impressive.” you mumbled and looked into the mirror to make yourself a hairstyle. “By the way i have one more thing for you.” Cal said and took out of his pocket a box. He walked over to you and opened the box.
You saw a wonderful beautiful silver necklace with a very large, blue sapphire stone in heart shape. “This necklace is very expensive and is also called the Heart of the Ocean.” he explained while he putted the necklace around your neck. “It's really beautiful...thank you.” you mumbled and hugged him. “Now make yourself ready so that we don't come too late.” Cal said and continued to make himself ready.
You went to the dining hall together and your parents were already there. “There you are. I saw over there a free table.” said your mother and went with your father to the free table. Cal and you followed her and sat down and ordered something to eat and something to drink.
You looked around in the large dining hall. Everywhere distinguished people who had lots of money and bragged about their money. You felt not comfortable in this surrounding. Most of all you would run far away from all the people or you would committed suicide. It sounds harsh, but your life isn't exactly the best. You were forced to marry a man just because your parents didn't want to worry about their money anymore. Your parents didn't care about your opinion or your feelings on this subject. You would rather be poor and marry who you want, instead of having this situation. In the beginning you had the hope that everything will change perhaps, but your hope disappeared when he proposed to you.
The food was served and you started to eat slowly. Your parents talked to Cal about some things that only rich people do, it didn't interest you. You had no motivation anymore and you didn't see another single way out. “I'm going out to get some fresh air.” you mumbled while you got up and were leaving the hall.
You went to the other side of the ship and stood by the rail crying. You were looking at the sea and the giant waves that were crashing on the ship wall. You were a bit unsure whether you should jump down there or not. What do you prefer? To die or be unhappy forever? The first one is better for you. You climbed onto the railing and clasped the terrain before you looked back at the sea. You breathed deeply in and out.
“Don't do it.” You heard a male voice behind you. You turned around and looked at the man. The man had brown curly hair and brown eyes. He was standing a few feet away from you. “Don't come closer.” your voice were shaky from the crying. “Stay where you are.” you admonished the man, but he walked slowly towards you with an outstretched hand. “Come, give me your hand. I take you back on here.” he came closer to you. “No, don't come closer.” you admonished him desperately. “I'm serious, I jump.” you looked for a moment at the sea and then back at him.
“No, you won't do that,” he said a few feet away from you. “What do you mean I won't do that?” you asked him and he looked to you. “Don't believe you could dictate me what I do or leave, you don't even know me.” your voice sounded desperate. “Well, otherwise you had already done that long ago.” His voice was calm. “You irritate me, go away.” you looked back at the sea. “I can't. Now it has something to do with me too. If you let go .” he started to pull off his jacket. “Then I have for good or nauseous jump after you.” He started to lace his shoes. “That's silly, you would drown.” you weren't sure what this man wanted from you.
“I'm a good swimmer.” he just said and took off his shoes. You tried to stop him. “But the impact would kill you.” “That would hurt, I agree with you. To be honest it worries me much more that the water is so cold.” he looked at you searchingly and you looked at him. “How cold?” you asked insecure. “Pretty cold, perhaps a few degrees over zero.” He paused for a moment. “Have you ever been in Wisconsin?” “What?” you asked him confused.
“Well, there are by far the coldest winter, I grew up there. I remember when I was very young. I often went with my father fishing on the ice lake. Ice fishing is when you...” he couldn't continue because you interrupted him. “I know what ice fishing is.” you said a bit annoyed. “Excuse me.” he murmured briefly and raised his hands defensively high. “You seem like you always spend most time indoors. Well one time the ice broke and I fell into the water. You can believe me, so cold water like this down there.” He glanced down at the sea. “It's like thousand stitches that sting in all over your body.” you looked at him confused while he continued. “You can't breathe, you can't think at anything except the pain.” he looked at you. “That's why I'm not so amused on jumping after you. But as I said .” he pulled his vest off. “I have no choice. I can only hope that you climb over the railing back and spare me that.” He was standing behind you and you looked at him again.
“You are crazy!” you meant and looked at him incredulously. “Funny, everyone says that. But with all due respect Miss. I'm not the one who wants to jump off this ship. Give me your hand.” He said softly and reached slowly your hand. “You don't want that.” he said softly and you slowly grabbed his hand. You turned around so that you could look him straight in the eye.
“I'm Joshua Dun.” he smiled at you and didn't let go of your hand. “(Y/ F/N) (Y/ L/N).” you smiled at him too “Come.” he smiled and you wanted to climb over but you slipped off. You screamed and he still held your hand. “I have you.” he tried to pull you back up, but you slipped away again. You screamed for help. “Listen, I have you. I will not let you go.” he assured you and pulled you on the ship.
When you felt the ship ground under your feet again you hugged him because of relief and gratitude. “Hey!” you let Joshua go and saw an angry Cal coming over to you two. “What do you actually think to lay a hand on my fiancée?” He stood in front of Joshua and asked him furious. Joshua glanced over to you for a second. “Look at me you idiot.” he pushed Joshua softly and you went in between.
“Cal!” “What did you think you were doing?” he asked addressed to Joshua. “Cal stop it, it was an accident.” you looked at him pleadingly and he looked at you questionably. “I had leaned over the railing and slipped over suddenly. I had leaned too far over.” you looked back to Joshua. “Because I wanted to see the...ehhmm...eh...the ehhm...” “The propellers?” Cal asked you. “I wanted to see the propellers. Then I slipped and would be almost gone overboard, but Mr. Dun saved me and were almost slipped over too.” your fiancé nodded and looked back at Joshua.
“Well Mr. Dun, maybe you would like to eat together with us, as a Thank You for your heroic deed.” He looked searchingly at Joshua. “ Sure.” said Joshua calm. “Well, then would this be clarified.” Cal said and walked with you back inside.
Throughout the evening you thought of him, Joshua. Did you merely knew that you would fell head over heels for him and that it would cause a lot of trouble. Joshua gave you the feeling of being loved and when you were with him you won a bit of hope again that everything will be fine.
