I walked into the girls bathroom and, splashed cold water on my face. It didn't help anything, I'm still a mess and now my make-up is too. I just should've went to my lunch detention, but no, I had to forget.
"Sammi?" I heard a familiar voice call out slowly.
"I'm in here Jenna," I called trying to clean myself up a bit.
She walked into the bathroom and stared at me for a while before, pulling me into a tight hug, " I'm sorry I wasn't there for you."
"It's not your fault, I should've went to my detention," I mumbled into her shoulder.
She pulled back a little to look at me, "You skipped out on your lunch detention?"
I looked down at the dirty bathroom floor, " I didn't mean to, I forgot about it. Then they asked me to sit with them so I did," I looked up into her eye, " and now everybody knows."
"It's okay, nobody 'ill care, we can get through this, It's-" Jenna started.
"What do you mean, 'nobody will care'? Everybody will care, they'll all make fun of me!" I took a deep breath and shook her off of me. "And what exactly do you mean we? Last time I checked I'm the one that gets bullied everyday for no reason, and now I'm the dike chick!"
"I didn't mean it like that, I just meant I'd be there for you if anyone gives you hell about who you are," she said quietly.
"Oh, come off it Jenna I know you don't really like me. Just stop pretending. I can't take it anymore!" I yelled at her.
"What are talking about?" she asked. I didn't answer her, only looked down. "Do you really think that? Do you honestly think I'm that kind of of person, that I couldn't care less if anything happens to you?" Once again I didn't answer. " Okay, it's not ..... I'm now really sure how to retaliate, I-I, why do you think that?"
To be honest I didn't know how to respond either so , I just looked up at her and shrugged my shoulders.
" There has to be a reason, you didn't just conspire that out of boredom. I had to do something, can't I at least know what it is that I've done?"
I saw the tears in her eyes, heard the hurt in her voice and, suddenly it felt wrong to say or even think the way I did. " I'm sorry"
" What did I do?" she chocked out.
"I just, I thought you did it to make yourself look like the good guy, the one who is selfless and automatically is well liked," I managed to say while somehow looking into her eyes.
"You're still not telling me what, you've told me why, so please, please just tell what," she pleaded with every breath more tears pouring out of her eyes.
" I thought you were pretending to be my friend because, you never talk to me if any of your other friends are around and, your friends can be as mean to me as they want, but you'll never say anything to them. And do you want to know why you won't say anything?" She nodded her head slowly. " You won't say any thing to them, because to you it's more important to be popular than just a few friends who would take a bullet for you," I told her sadness and a bit of disgust clear in my voice.
"Oh," was all she said.
" I have to go and explain why I missed most of my lunch detention now," I said as I quickly exited the restroom.
