Like a ton of bricks

callie's pov

As I begin to regain conciseness, I try to remember where I am. I start to move around and I feel that I am covered by a horribly scratchy blanket, and as I m coming to my senses I hear the loud beeping of a heart monitor. As that sound invades my ears the memories of last night come in tsunami force waves and hits me like a ton of bricks. My breathing starts to become erratic and I hear someone inter my room.

''Torres. Torres, you need to calm down or we will have to sedate you again.'' When I heard that I quickly opened my eyes to see Baily standing over me.

With my breathing still out of control Baily places a oxygen mask over my face. ''wha..'' I tried to speak through ridged breaths before she cuts me off. ''Callie just breath. I don't know what happened but I m sure you can explain to why last night Christina ran in here asking for help to retrieve you from the middle of the parking lot!'' I just looked at her attempting to keep the tears at bay.

'' First can you tell me why I m hooked up to an I.V and als.." for the second time today I get cut off. '' you apparently collapsed outside..'' I started screaming at our unwelcome visitor ''Erica why are you here, you told me that you wanted nothing to do with me. you left me In a parking lot after telling me how bad of a partner I was!'' Baily was pretty much holding me back now. A nurse apparently heard all of the commotion because before I knew the chief was in here looking at us with a very disappointed scowl.

''what in Gods name is going on here'' chief asked very sternly. Baily soon chimed in after letting me go '' Torres was about to tell me sir but then Dr.Hahn stepped in and interrupted her.'' the chief then looked over to me looking for an explanation. I quickly looked around the room trying to find an escape plan because I didn't want to share my horrible love life with the chief. Then it hits me '' um chief I would actually like if Dr.Hahn explained what happened but I will fill in if she leaves out any thing important.'' I finish with a smirk. Baily and the chief just look at each other but the chief shrugs and turns to Hahn for a answer.

Erica begins '' well.um.well, you see sir me and Dr.Torres's relationship was over and we got in a fight and um. We both said things we shouldn't ha..''

I intervene ''try again Dr.Hahn.'' she just turned and glared at me. She picks up from where I cut her off. '' to be more exact I told her some things that shouldn't have been said.'' she stopped and looked at me then to where the chief and Baily was standing. Baily was the first to speak up, ''what exactly did you tell her?'' asking without room for question.

Erica looked over to me and looked me in the eyes as she reiterated those horrible words, ''I told Callie that she was average at most and that I never loved her. Also I told her that she was to clingy and that she never went to me when she needed support. finally I told her that she would never understand me and my work and that she would never amount to anything in life.''

Baily walked over to the bed and took my hand in hers and then what she did next shocked me because Baily didn't do personal. She leaned in and took me in a big embrace and told me soothing words. Baily began, ''you are beautiful, funny, and very intelligent. that woman over there is blind and don't let anyone tell you different.'' she paused for a moment and looked up at my face that was stricken with silently tears. She continued, ''Callie for as long as I have known you, I have instantly had a connection with you..'' Baily was cut off with a famous Callie eye brow raise. When it finally dawned on what she said she punched me in the arm and stated In a firm put light tone, ''really Torres, we were having a nice moment and then you just have to ruin it. I was going to say that I used to push every one away and then you came and you're like a little baby bird that I need to look out for.'' I give her a confused look. before I could even ask she blurts out, '' I m trying to say that I care about you. There are you happy, you now know I have a heart. Don't let anyone in on this though because I m supposed to be Nazi and you don't mess with the Nazi.''

I let out a hearty chuckle at Bailys antics. After chatting for a couple of minutes we both looked at each other and we both were thinking the same thing but I soon voiced it. ''where did Erica and the chief go?'' Baily just looked back at me and shrugged her shoulders. I then asked why I was in the hospital and why I was hooked up to machines but just before she could answer mark walked in with food. I looked to where he was sanding and a big smile formed on my face.

Mark chuckled at my actions to when he brought food. We sat down and talked about some of our cases that we had and we didn't even notice Baily dismiss herself. I had finished my Chinese and stared dosing off. ''I m I really that boring Torres, how about I let you get some rest.'' he said and then started to gather the trash getting ready to leave. As his foot was almost out the door I hurry and manage to get out, '' why I m I here? I mean do I get to leave anytime soon?''

Mark looked back at me and just smiled, '' I'll tell you tomorrow, just get some rest. How about this, I will take you out to Joe's tomorrow and tell you what happened and you tell me what happened, deal?'' By that point I was already half asleep and gave a semi grunt to answer mark. He just shook his head and said, ''I will take that as a yes, see you later Torres. Get some rest, heaven knows you love your sleep.''
