ADAM

Waking up the next morning seemed like a strange ordeal I had to go through. I don't even know what the dream I had last night even meant, all I could remember was how I was falling backwards for almost forever until that sensation slowly faded away. Still I had to get myself out of bed, it's the first day of school after summer break today and I have a Creative Writing class I have to tend to first thing in the morning at eight.

I slammed down on the snooze button to silence the blaring alarm and pushed myself up into a sitting position, rudely slamming my head against the hard headboard. Strange, the headboard of my bed was usually softer than this. The next rude shock I got was that I practically found myself out of my bedroom, let alone out of my house, in a different bed with different bed sheets, and that I had clothes on. What was going on? Where was I and how did I get dressed without getting out of bed?

I rubbed the last few seconds of sleep out of my eyes before looking back at my hands. They seemed to have shrunk, now more petite than usual, the fingers more slender and adept than before. Sleek, dark brown hair dangled down from my scalp and rested squarely on my shoulders, and my vision seemed to become very blurry overnight. I looked over to the bedside table and found a pair of glasses that I immediately slipped on, and my vision instantly reverted back to its normal state, thank goodness.

Right, I've turned into a young lady overnight. That was freaky.

I caught a glimpse of a small box resting beside where I found the glasses. Leaning over to pick it up, I slipped open the lid, only to come face to face with a piece of jewellery that looked very familiar. A sterling silver necklace with a black onyx pendant. I slammed the lid of the box shut again. Wasn't that Jayda's necklace? Why would I suddenly morph into a young lady and find myself holding the box containing my student's jewellery?

I yawned and shuffled into the bathroom. Maybe I should start focusing more on washing up and getting to school on time rather than find out what happened to me overnight. I picked up the lone toothbrush from beside the sink and squeezed a reasonable amount of toothpaste before giving my mouth a rinse and sticking the toothbrush inside. Once I looked up into the mirror, however, I was seconds close to spitting out the toothbrush in my mouth.

What on earth had happened last night?

I wasn't even in my own body anymore.

I was, however, trapped within the body of my star student.

I rolled over; slamming my hand down on what I thought was the alarm clock. Nothing. All that my floppy right hand had met was just the air flowing beneath it.

I frowned. Where the actual hell was that god damn alarm clock? Didn't I always put it on the bedside table on my right? Strange indeed.

I flipped over and swam begrudgingly through the white sheets, hammering down on a button to silence the incessant noise. Thankfully the beeping had finally died down, just enough to get me awake in the morning, but not too much to end me with a throbbing headache.

Reaching up to wipe the last seconds of sleep lingering in my eyes, I leant over again to reach out for the dearly beloved pair of glasses that I would die without. Nothing. There was absolutely no sign of those spectacles on either side of the night stands.

I stared straight ahead blankly, staring at the room I was in. It was huge, too huge for me to sleep in, let alone live in. The size of the bedroom itself felt like the size of the entire apartment I used to live in before my family moved to the suburbs. I caught sight of a nearby clock suspended from a wall; miraculously I could find a way to even read the timing on it without my glasses. Odd.
