ADELAIDE'S POV

I hung up with the delightful pair when they began concentrating on themselves, forgetting I was still there. All I could make out was black and white, all of the color in my life disappeared when Niall pulled his sleek Suburban out of my driveway. I haven't moved from my place on my bed other than to pee and get water. My eyes remained focused on the ceiling, expecting Niall to pop up in front of me with a stupid grin plastered across his lips but I knew full well that wasn't taking place, I knew he wasn't coming back and I knew I couldn't linger forever. No amount of sedatives could help the yearning agony in my heart.

Ezra interrupted my time of melancholy by calling me, I considered not answering but it had been so long since I've heard from him I settled on answering. "Hello, baby brother," I answered, concealing the anguish in my voice.

"Hello, more ancient, blood-born sister," he smiled from the other end. I heard some shuffling before he commanded me to go on Skype and hung up. Just as I logged on, his call came through, "I need some help with the Quadratic Formula and you're the only one in the family who passed Algebra two with flying colors."

"Because it's simple? You're probably overthinking it." I found my notebook to be a jumble of discriminants and radical signs by the time we were finished, I was nauseous. I told him every rule, every equation, and every form to work it out. Finally, after four hours and several arguments, he understood. "Better?"

"Yes, thank you, dearest sister," a taste of sarcasm running off his tongue but I knew he was serious, or he actually didn't understand it but my pride was advising me it's permanently etched into his brain. "I'm going to go but when you have the opportunity, call Dad, I think out of all of us," he paused to look down at his phone, "He wins at missing you the most."

It melted my heart hearing that, my dad and I never had a heavy father-daughter connection, nothing like Hayden and hers. "I promise, I will, I gave up a class so I have this blank hour of freedom."

"Okay, love you," Ezra stated, looking like a lost puppy, his prominent brown eyes wide.

"Love you, too." I waved goodbye before hanging up and shutting down the electronic. It was soon after that my doorbell rang several times in a row. Part of me was praying it was Niall, the other half praying it wasn't.

I threw my leggings back on and adjusted my top before sliding in my fuzzy socks to the door, I threw open the door to a tall, red-headed female, "Aspen, hi."

"Hey, Darcy sent me here to make sure you were okay, you acted a little off today at work," she got straight to the point, fidgeting a bit. Aspen was a get-to-the-point kind of girl, she hated client consultations that involved an indecisive client.

"Oh, I'm okay," I shrugged, pushing the thoughts of Niall into the far side of my mind, "Do you wanna come in? I can't let you drive back to Edinburg so late." She nodded and stepped inside, taking in the new scenery. She led herself around the house, finding the bathroom and my bedroom, I warned her ahead of time to stay out of Hayden's.

"I like your house, it's cozy," her small frame sitting at the corner of my floral couch.

We talked about the clients that came in after me and how Darcy had to take over a client who was in Ellie's chair, a girl with way too much attitude and force because she was getting to be "out of hand", as Aspen put it. Dirty Dancing sounded throughout my London home, Aspen sitting criss-cross with my head on her knee. The both of us just falling asleep when the doorbell scared the two of is wide awake.

"Who in the bloody hell is at your house this late?" Aspen yawned, the scare visible in her dark brown eyes.

"I don't know," I replied and sat up from my seat when it sounded again. "I'm coming! I'm co-," my heart stopped when my eyes connected to the boy on my front porch, "Niall." His head shot up from his worn out suede oxfords and for the first time in what felt like forever, his eyes met mine.
