"Father may I speak with you for a moment?" I ask my father as I walk into the tattered remains of a restaurant in a city we just destroyed.
"What is it Xena? I'm trying to eat." Father said uninterested as he continued eating.
"I was wondering if you would allow me to visit mother's grave for a while, I wouldn't take too long." I ask looking at the ground.
"I don't see the point of it but so be it, you will have an hour. Be back here by then or I will come get you, and neither of us want that now do we?" He instructed me still eating.
"Yes sir I understand, thank you for allowing me to go I will be back in an hour." I said bowing to my father and leaving the destroyed building. I find a flower stand that was still in decent condition and grabbed a big bouquet of Amaryllis and Dahlias then fly off in the direction of my old home. I was flying for a good 20 minutes before I spotted the familiar woods. After landing in the clearing nearby I walk up to the ruins of my mother's home and the tombstone I had put there for her. I placed the bouquet of Amaryllis and Dahlias, her favorites, on her grave and said a silent prayer for her before getting up.
"Seems like you are less like your father that you think." An old voice said from behind me out of nowhere. I whip around turning into my rose form and shot an energy blast in the direction of the voice.
"Who's there, show yourself and face me!" I yell looking around trying to find an energy signature.
"No need to jump the gun and attack, I'm not your enemy I only want to talk." The voice said. after a moment I drop my rose form but not my guard as an short, purple, old man steps out of the ruins of my mother' house. "It's nice to finally meet you young Xena." He said coming to a stop in front of me.
"Who the hell are you old man?" I asked still on guard.
"No need to be hostile young lady, I'm Elder Kai and I was an old friend of your mother Xenini." He introduced himself.
"Bullshit, mother never talked about you." I said not believe a word this weird old man was saying. I walk past him and into the house, looking around the house for my mother's things I could take and hide in my room.
"Try looking under that low arch on the wall. There is a switch, hit it." The old man said walking into the ruins. I try what he says and to my surprise a hatch opens on the top of the arch. "Go on, take what's inside." He said looking at me then to the open hatch. I slowly stick my hand in the opening to pull out my mother's cherry wood staff.
"M-mom..." I choke out as I clutch the familiar worn wooden staff. I sink to the ground hugging the staff trying not to cry. The old man walks over to me, just watching me. "I-I need to get back, father is expecting me in a few minutes." I say with a shaky breath as I get up.
"Do you really want to go back? You've shown me everything I need to see to be able to take to away from here like your mother asked me a long time ago." Elder Kai said making me freeze in place.
"What do you mean by that?" I asked confused.
"Your mother was part of a group known as the time patrollers, she aided us in a lot of things. Although after she became pregnant with you she couldn't use the time scrolls without causing harm to you." He explained.
"So what you are saying is she was stuck here and ended up dying by my father's hand because of me." I say rather than ask feeling a pang of pain in my chest at the realization. "So in other words I'm no better than my father, I might as well have killed her myself, she lost her life because of me." I snap storming off.
"Child listen to me, it was not your fault. She chose to protect you from your father, that was her choice to make you couldn't have done anything about what happened." He said trying to calm me down.
"My time here is almost up, father only gave me an hour here and if I don't leave now I won't make it back in time. If I'm late father will punish me." I said with a shaky voice trying to calm my nerves.
"Do you really want to go back?" That simple question made me stop in my tracks before I took off and I just stood there silently. He didn't ask or say anything else, neither did I, we just stood there in silence before I felt an all too familiar energy signature approaching insanely fast.
"Well well well, I told you that and hour was your max time. I also told you neither one of us wanted me to have to come after you." My father said in a colder voice than usual walking towards me slowly.
"F-father I was going to head back but he..." I started to say as I turned around to point to Elder Kai but he wasn't there. "Where did..." I got cut off a kick to the back by my father and was sent flying through five trees before hitting the sixth and sliding down it.
"You know I don't take kindly to being lied to by you Xena dear~." He cooed while walking towards me again as I struggled to get up.
I manage to push myself up onto my hands and knees as I cough up blood shaken from the impact of hitting the trees. "I-I was-sn't l-lying..." I stutter out through my gasps. I manage to stand up with the aid of the tree as my father continued walking towards me. "I-I swear the guy was there a moment a..." I get cut off by him grabbing me by my throat and throwing me back towards the ruins.
"Still going on about that huh, seems like you haven't learned your lesson." He said as my back slammed into one of the still standing walls of the house. I roll away from the wall coughing up more blood. Father stopped in between me and the wall while I was trying to push myself up on my elbows. He stuck his right foot underneath my stomach and kicked upward sending my flying up into the air. As I come back down he grabs ahold of my ankle and swings my body towards the wall behind him.
"AHHHHH!!!" I scream at the top of my lungs as my back hits a corner and the worn jagged bricks cut into my back as it hits the edge. He then tosses my weak body at a wall a little ways away. I hit the wall hard and collapse onto the dirt unable to move as I feel blood starting to pool around my body. My consciousness started to waver in and out as I looked up to my father.
"Have you learned your lesson Xena?" He asked in his cold heartless voice as he walked towards me again.
"Xena, hold on." I heard Elder Kai say through my hazy consciousness.
"Where the hell did you come from old man?" Father asked Elder Kai as he comes dashing out of the woods. "What are you...?" Father asked as Elder Kai stops next to me and kneels down. It looks like he had pulled something out of his belt and father yells. "Don't you fu...!!" Is also I hear him say before I get enveloped by a bright light and Father disappears from view.
"Xena, just hold on ok?" Elder Kai said once the light faded. "Trunks where are you!" He yells out as someone comes rushing into the room.
"What happened?!" I heard a familiar voice say.
"We need to get her to the infirmary now." I hear a young girl's voice say as I feel my body get lifted up into the air. I open my eyes as my vision continues to fade in and out I see what looks like Trunks before I black out and go limp in the arms of the one carrying me.
