By the time the food is delivered about 30 minutes after Tom placed the order, you finally agree on a movie to watch. You both decide to chat a little while you eat before you start the movie. Throughout your talk, you notice that Tom is acting kind of strange. He rarely makes eye contact, which is totally out of the norm for him, and he is very vague about things. He keeps the discussion focused on you until there is pretty much nothing else for you to tell him! When silence takes over, you gather courage to ask what is going on.
-
"Tom, is everything alright?" You ask quietly.
-
"Of course! Why are you asking?" He says, as if you've asked the oddest question imaginable.
-
"Tom, you're a terrible liar. I can tell something is up!" You say before you take bite out of your egg role.
-
"It's nothing, stop worrying about me. You always worry! I'm okay, y/n, trust me." He says, locking his eyes with yours, trying to make his statement more believable. But tough luck for him because you know him better than that.
-
"Thomas William Hiddleston you are not telling me the truth and I will get to the bottom of this!! But for now, let's make some pudding!" You say, taking on the role of a detective whilst changing the topic of discussion to something less serious.
-
He laughs his famous laugh then says, "whatever you say, DETECTIVE," adding emphasis to that last bit. "Oh, and, by the way, have you been brushing up on your acting skills? Because I wouldn't be able to tell you apart from an actual detective," he's teasing you, like he always does.
-
"Oh shoosh!" You playfully push his shoulder, then get up to make some of his beloved pudding.
-
As you're making his pudding, (and yes, you are actually making it. You've learned after knowing Tom for so long that the already made, store bought mini cups just don't cut it,) you think about how you and Tom first met.
-
It was an acting job, a very small one, from before Tom was so insanely famous. You luckily scored a part that had a lot of scenes with Tom, which meant a lot of coming in on the same days and spending a lot of time together, which eventually lead to "you're buying coffee tomorrow, I bought this mornings!!" You both flirted back and forth the entire time, but also confided in eachother when you felt nervous or for some reason couldn't get a line right. You grew very close, and, once the play was over, you both decided to go to dinner. The night was filled with endless laughter and you connected instantly! You both had tried to go on a few official dates together within the first year of meeting, but it never seemed right. You stuck with being just friends and grew to be super close. Six years later, here you are, standing at your stove making him vanilla pudding from scratch.
-
You very quietly giggle to yourself at all the thoughts in your mind when you hear the floor creak behind you. You jump, startled, and turn your body to glance to where the noise came from. In the process, your hand slips to the side of the pot. You quickly pull your hand away and look at the burn. "Dammit," you saying wincing and shaking your hand, as if that will help at all. Tom is standing in front of you almost immediately, looking at your hand. He hurriedly examines it then rushes in the direction of your bathroom. He's back as quickly as he left with the peroxide, a cotton ball, and a large band aid. "I am so sorry, darling, I didn't mean to startle you," he says, clearly feeling guilty.
-
"Oh Tom, don't be. You know how I am. I shouldn't be so jumpy!" You say convincingly. While you're trying to reassure him you begin to realize how close he is to you. You both always sit next to eachother on the couch and hug eachother goodbye and whatnot, but this is way closer than what you're used to. ~I should get hurt more often....~
-
"What are you grinning at?" Tom asks while taking care of your wound. His head was looking down towards your hand so you hadn't expected him to see your facial expression.
-
You feel your face starting to burn a tiny bit and try to hold it back, "huh? Umm.." You have no idea how to explain yourself.
-
"That's it. It's official. You are officially a total nut job," Tom concludes in a fake serious tone.
-
"What! Am not!" ~good comeback, y/n~ you kick yourself for not being more on your toes.
-
"Only a nut job would be grinning after they just burned their hand while making their best friend pudding. Only. A. Nut-job," he pauses between each of those last words and boops your nose playfully, then looks up at you with another teasing grin.
-
You only giggle in response because you're worried that if you let out another word your face will turn red all a cherry. He giggles along with you. It's not his usual "ehehe" that you adore, but this giggle is equally as cute.
-
~What are you trying to do to yourself, y/n? Get those thoughts out of your mind!!~ you try to push them out of your head, but they just won't go away.
-
Just then you notice that Tom is already done cleaning your would and has the band aid stuck on it. He still has a hold of your hand and is looking at you with a look on his face you haven't seen before. And, oh goodness, the things that look is doing to you. Your stomach is practically doing a gymnastics routine with all it's flips and spins.
-
"I like that laugh..." He says in almost a whisper. His face slowly coming closer to yours. ~is this finally happening? Oh my gosh, don't freak out, don't freak out!~
-
