CHAPTER ONE
“So, excited for University?” Isaac smirked as he had one hand on the steering wheel, and the other on the navigation lever. I rolled my eyes and let out a stifle laugh, “Not really, but I’m excited to see Garin.” I smiled, looking up at Isaac. “You and Garin have a really odd friendship.” Isaac joked, laughing. I laughed along, “That’s what makes us special.”
It has been nine years since I’ve discovered Garin, he has grown bigger and bigger every year. Today was our ninth year of friendship. Garin and I have developed a bond of friendship this past nine years, ever since I first trained him; he had learned his patient with me and he has been living in the beach where Grandpa and I had planned.
So far nobody still knows he exist, so every summer break I’d visit him and we would go for a swim. I had learned to do tricks with him - just like those dolphin shows you seen at Oceanparks. I would ride on his back, holding onto his fin as he swam - sometimes at night time when everyone’s sleeping, I would often take him over the bridge just so he can be exposed to the ocean.
What’s weird is that, Garin and I can communicate somehow.
I’ve discovered this after having a fight with my parents about seeing Garin, since they'd always tell me that it would be dangerous to be around him. That moment when he stared deeply into my eyes - just like how he did when he'd always try to drain his preys - deep down I was scared that I was going to die, but this time he didn't drain me like I expect him to.
He as if went into my mind and began speaking to me there instead.
I told Grandpa about this and had told me that it’s impossible for Hubrises to communicate through the mind. It would’ve killed me instantly. But Garin and I have been doing this for the past nine years and here I am, still breathing.
Now that I am eighteen and I was lucky enough to get accepted into a university in Finsville. Thank goodness the building was by the beach! There were dorm rooms that had balconies, opening out into the ocean. I was honestly happy that Isaac had a close friend working there to help me get the one nearest to the ocean as possible, just so I can meet up with Garin.
Garin is my best friend - in face he was my only friend. I seem to have this aura that makes people thing that I was crazy and just weird. Probably from the way I dress or act, I just never socialize to anybody. I can only turn to Garin or my family for any advice and tips, but mostly I choose Garin.
“Alright Amadea, we’re here!” Isaac stopped his car infront of a humongous building, filled with teenagers and young adults. The building was painted in a light shade of blue and white, and on the middle of it stands a huge sign, ‘FINSVILLE UNIVERSITY’ written in big white bold letters. Isaac turned off his engine, he was now twenty-five, and I’m expecting a niece from him soon – which I’m very excited for.
I’m going to introduce her to Garin when she pops out. Maybe when I’m not there to look after Aiden anymore, she can look after him for me. Grandpa also informed me that Hubrises can live for a really long period of time - really just like a vampire being immortal - just make sure that he’s well fed and he can live infinitely.
Which is also a good idea because Isaac bought a house that's close to the beach so why not take the opportunity?
I got off the car as Isaac helped me carried boxes of my stuff. I dragged my luggage and my handbag as I stood infront of the building, just in awe. It had a fountain right in the middle, many students sat by it with their friends and have a good talk.
The garden surrounding the school is flawless and the area is absolutely clean. I was really surprised that the fees of the place wasn't that expensive.
“Come on, this way Amadea.” Isaac said as I followed him. This is where he also went to for University, he studied forensic science. I followed him inside and saw a whole bunch of students walking around and staffs as well as teachers too. It was all modern made, big wide windows bringing lots of sunlight in, the hard wooden floors and square shape furnitures.
He walked up towards the receptionist as I followed. "Isaac? Wow, it is so great to see you! You look great and congratulations with the marriage“ The lady grinned at my brother. "Kara! It is great to see you too, and thank you so very much."
"So is this your sister? Wow, she grew so much from when you showed me that photo of her." Kara smiled at me as she went to shake my head. "Amadea this is Kara, a very good friend of mine and a good a classmate." Isaac says as I accepted Kara's hand as we greet each other.
"Okay so, we want to register her name in.” Isaac said as Kara nodded her head. “Please write your name here,” She gave me a piece of paper and pen. I wrote down my name, ‘Amadea Roselyn Truscott’ before handing it back to her.
She typed into her keyboard and looked back up at me, “Alright, so Amadea Roselyn Truscott.” She say as she tapped on enter and stood up. She walked to the back and over to a row of cabinets built in. She took out a green colored folder and walked back towards me, “Here you go.”
She smiled as she handed over the folder, and she passed me the keys. “That’s your dorm key, sweety. Good luck!” She said as she took a seat again. I nodded, “Thank you.” I smiled back, dragging my luggage, I looked at my folder.
I read it, looking at my dorm room, “Ahh, Room 5A.” Isaac smirked. “You can thank me later.”
I blushed and nodded, “okay sure.” Isaac smiled down at me as we walked over to my dorm room. He stopped right down the hall as I placed my key in, unlocking it. I went in and put the keys in the key slot, turning on the lights. It was a pretty spacious room just for one person and thankfully my own personal bathroom. Not to mention the huge glass doors that leads to a balcony out to the sea – I can finally jump and swim with Garin all the time.
“Well, I’ll see you soon little sis, I’m going to be busy finishing up the house.” He ruffled my hair, “Good luck.” He smiled and pecked my forehead, hugging me tightly. “Take care alright?” he tells me as I nodded and I let go. "Always."
He smiled and left, leaving me to unpack. I sighed and looked around, I started to open up the box, filled with stuff. I started to take them out one by one, just then loud splatters of water droplets smashed against the glass doors of my balcony. I furrowed my brows and looked out just to see Garin, staring at me.
I grinned as I stood up and walked over to the doors, quickly opening it. “You shouldn’t be here you know, people will see you.”
Garin stared at me in the eyes deeply, ‘I wanted to see you, congrats by the way!’ his voice echoed in my head. “Aww, thanks Gar! Now you should go, have you eaten by the way?” I asked, leaning against the railings. He nodded his head as I smiled again, “Alright, I’ll come out here to take you out swimming later tonight after dinner alright?” I told him as he went up, halfway out of the water and splashed back in backwards as if he died.
“Hey, don’t be impatient with me.” I giggled. “Now I’ll see you later, I have to unpack and people might see you.”
‘Finee!’ he whined in my head. I rolled my eyes, “See you!” I blew him a kiss and walked back in as he swam away. I continued my business unpacking my stuff, and renovating my room. I set up my baby blue duvet and covers, putting a plush toy orca but customized by my mom. She sewed it for me as an apology from our fight. It was really kind of her.
Mom and dad are still back at Ohio, busier with work than ever. That’s a reason why they couldn’t be here to see me go in University. I plopped on my bed after doing the unpacking, I checked my time on my watch and it was now five in the afternoon, I’ve spent nearly five hours unpacking my stuff. I huffed out a loud sigh, when all of the sudden there was a knock on my door. I jumped up from my bed, walking towards the door, opening it to reveal a tall and slender boy.
He looked at me and let out a smile, “Hey!” He greeted.
