"This was the best idea you've ever had, Thace." The prison guard smiled at him with needle sharp teeth.

"I suppose so." Thace replied.

"Have fun dealing with the beast, yeah?" He said gleefully. "If he causes any trouble, I'd shock him a few times." He guffawed. "It sends him into a frenzy! You should see it!" He tried to activate the shock before Thace stopped him.

"I'll keep that in mind," Thace replied calmly.

"Later then?" The guard asked in a disappointed tone.

Thace nodded. "Now go. You're distracting me from my shift."

"Right, of course." The old prison guard nodded and left without another word.

Thace turned to Keith who slipped his hand out between the bars. He stepped close to the cell, opening his palm for Keith to trace the letters of his question into it. They were well aware of the cameras recording their every word and movement but Thace reasoned that, if they passed on their messages like this, no one would ever be the wiser.

"W. A. T. E. R?" Keith traced the letters carefully.

Thace watched him with sympathetic eyes and tapped the back of his hand twice to signal that it was a no.

Keith was disappointed by this but it wasn't anything less than he expected. This was their waiting period. They just had to wait it out for a day and a half, then the lessons could begin. As the burning thirst began to return to his throat, Keith reasoned that their waiting period couldn't end soon enough.
