"Wait, what?" Dean asked, incredibly confused.

Bill said nothing, he just shrugged his shoulders and walked out of the room.

"Dirk Cresswell is here?"

Ted looked just as bemused as he felt but they followed Bill upstairs anyway, albeit rather cautiously. The stairs were crooked and uneven and Dean noticed a border of turquoise seashells placed in a border up the wall. This house was an artistic dream.

They were led into a small, blue bedroom where a tall, chestnut haired man sat at a desk. He was pale and his oversized clothes were bedraggled. He swiftly turned to face them when a floorboard creaked as they walked into the room.

"He turned up a week ago," Bill huffed, "running from the ministry and decided to come here." He rolled his eyes and whispered to Dean, "I really hope you're here to get him to leave for God's sakes."

Meanwhile, Dirk was staring fixedly at Dean. He slowly got to his feet and stumbled over to him.

"Or-Orson? My friend! I haven't seen you in years!" By now, he had his hands either side of Dean's face and his eyes were specked with tears. Dean, who was feeling very uncomfortable, stepped backwards and almost fell over an uneven floorboard.

"Uh - no sir, I'm his son, Dean Thomas."

"Oh," Dirk looked crestfallen, "of course. I'm sorry."

Noticing the uncomfortable atmosphere, Ted began to speak. "We were actually wondering if you could help us find him Mr Cresswell? Or if you knew where he could be? Or if you have any legal documents regarding him? Dean needs to get back to Hogwarts, you see."

Dirk looked deep in thought. "Ah Hogwarts! Best years of my life! That's where I met Orson. Kind, gentle spirit he had; no one quite knew why he wasn't in Hufflepuff to be honest. Guess he was quite reckless in the end - getting a muggle pregnant during the heights of the war."

Dean wasn't sure what to make of this new information. He wasn't surprised about his father's nature - people often told him that he would've made a good Hufflepuff himself. Although it did make him rather angry to hear his mother described in such a way. She wasn't just some muggle who got knocked up!

"Can you help us Dirk? Do you have any idea what happened to my father?" Dean asked, getting angrier by the second.

Dirk sighed, "Yes - I can help you." Both Dean and Ted breathed a sigh of relief at this; they hadn't come all this way for nothing!

"Sit down, this is a long story," he started. They sat on the edge of the bed, opposite the chair on which Dirk was sat. "After leaving your house Mr Tonks, Orson turned up at mine. He said he needed a place to go, somewhere where the ministry wouldn't find him. Luckily for him, I was also sorting out plans to go into hiding. I was working at Gringotts back then and they couldn't exactly have a muggle born in charge of pure blood money could they? I had a plan to run away with some goblin friends of mine to a small island off the coast of Wales; it's where goblins originate from. When I told Orson all of this, well of course he wanted to come! I was happy to have a school friend with me because goblins can get highly irritating after a while."

Dean's excitement was growing as he spoke, this was perfect! Dirk knew exactly where to find his father, they just had to travel to this island and find him. He'd be back at Hogwarts with Seamus in no time!

"This is mainly due to the fact that goblins are extremely prejudiced against humans. They had only agreed to help me because I was willing to pay them with some lovely goblin made cuff-links. Orson, however, had nothing to give them. I knew how much he needed to go, he just wanted to be somewhere safe until the war was over. He just wanted to be able to see you grow up, Dean. I, on the other hand, had no one. No wife, no children, nothing to lose so I gave him my cuff-links. They left the next day I haven't heard from him since."

"Oh." Was all Dean could say. He should never have gotten his hopes up, of course there was a catch! He wasn't really stupid enough to believe that this man had safely seen his dad onto an island full of goblins and return without him!

"But I will help you look for him. Orson was my best friend - if there's a chance to see him again, I'll happily take it."

"And where is this island? Can you find it for us?" Ted asked enthusiastically.

"It's called Ynys Sgomer."

Dean was confused. Dirk had definitely said something but it definitely wasn't English. It sounded more like a collection of rattling, guttural noises.

"What?" he asked.

"Ynys Sgomer," Dirk repeated. "That's Gobbledegook for Skomer Island."

Gobbledegook! Dean had thought it was physically impossible for a human to learn Gobbledegook! It was almost as preposterous as a cat learning German!

"Right," Ted jumped up, "let's go! Dean, get your GPS thingy!"

"Wait, we can't just go there! Goblin magic is very different from human magic. Just as we can put up protective spells to stop muggles finding us, Goblins can do spells to prevent wizards from entering certain places. The only way we can get in is if we have a goblin to accompany us!"

Ted sat back down on the bed and grumbled to himself. "Where the hell are we supposed to find a goblin willing to help three muggle born wizards with no means of paying them?"

Dirk smirked. "I know a few that I might be able to convince. Plus, we can pay them."

"Oh, do you just happen to have a goblin made axe or something hidden in your trousers?" Ted was practically oozing sarcasm at this point. Dean quite liked Ted when he was angry.

"No, but I'll bet you anything that the boy's bracelet is goblin made."
