Religious devotion can only go so far / you see

A deity dressed in crisp white collars / wide grin and tennis rackets / sublime sunshine paints the perfect picture

You are a god I can worship / a god I can get down on my knees for / Eyes like Zeus and a glare like Poseidon / You'll move the earth for me, won't you baby? / I'll eat your body / sacrificial bread

I'll lay my life on a cross / living for the day you send visions past my eyes / and tremors down my spine / If only you'll part the sea for me, baby / If only you'll promise to force ambrosia until I set on fire

A blind follower you can always count on / I'll dance in the rain of your hurricanes / feel my hair whip past crumbling suburbia in your tornadoes / paint the sidewalk as it cracks in your earthquakes

"Why would a god like you hurt / swallow hearts like a buffet?" / God always needs more angels in heaven, baby / Whats a god without a pile of haloed girls who worship him / lest they forget that he tore off their wings and left them chest ripped-open

Mortals too scared to get up off their knees / to throw satan-fire-tongues at you / a god like you / who brings willow tree groves and the turning of the tides

I'm crying into my wine / salt of the earth / You'll never love me like you love Aphrodite, will you baby?

Trapped within the pages of your bible / your commandments echo

1. display love

2. receive love

3. revoke love

a god like you shouldn't have to chain girls into disciples
