"How was school today Alli?" My mom asks as we sit alone at the dinner table. My dad usually didn't come home till late so this was the usual dinner time experience. "Fine, the classes I have are pretty cool, and there's lots of other werewolves at the school." I say and my mom lets out a sigh. "Well I guess that's nice, but don't forget. Your father and I don't want you making to many close friends, or really any at all. It's fine if you want to talk to people from time to time but with all the moving," she pauses taking a breath as I stare at my food. "we just don't want what happened in seventh grade to happen again." She says looking at me with a smile full of pity.

I nodded. I had heard this story a hundred times. What happened in seventh grade had nothing to do with close friends. We ate the rest of our dinner in silence and then I went up to my room to do homework while my mom made a few phone calls for work.

I try not to think about what happened in seventh grade to often but sometimes it just kinda pops into my head. It's not a happy memory really and I don't enjoy thinking about it, but sometimes I have no choice. I sit there staring at my pencil as I think about it, Matthew P. James.

"Come on Maddie, he's just a friend." I say as my friend teases me. "Sure and that whole him asking you to hang out later today is just a friendly chat." She says with a smirk and I laugh. "Yeah that's kinda, exactly what it is." I say and she crosses her arms. "Whatever, you know he totally like you and you like him." She says and I smile at her blushing a little.

Had it really been so long? I could hardly remember what happened after that moment. Matthew asked me out, we dated for a while, he tried to kiss my I pulled away and then ended up just going home. I had forgotten we were moving the next day, everything was in boxes or in the moving truck. I woke up and just got into our family's car. Then we left, we just left.

I found out about two months after when I got a letter from my friend Maddie that Matthew had ended up transferring schools, but before he did he became an empty shell of what he used to be, and it was my fault. I had rejected him and then left without a word.

My parents knew it was because of my poor social skills. I had only had had only two close friends throughout my life. Maddie and a girl named Lily. I was never good at keeping stable relationships so I never knew how to tell Matthew I had moved after I left. My parents didn't want me or them to have to go through it again.

I lean back on my chair and shake my head. How could I just not have friends. They were wrong I could have friends and keep stable relationships and I was gonna prove it, somehow.

The Next Morning

I walking into the school and begin to head walk over to the mentor table to ask a question when I hear someone say my name. It was Garroth. "Hey Garroth! How are you?" I ask walking over to him and he smiles. "I'm doing well. How are you? You make any new friends?" He asks and I smile. "I'm doing good and my only friends so far are you and Lucinda." I say and then remember my other friend.

"Oh and I talked to your brother Zane last night before I drove home and we're kinda friends as well." I say and Garroth looks at me eyebrows raised. "You're friends with Zane?" He asked and I nodded again. "Yeah, that's what I just said." I say and he shakes his head. "Sorry, it's just, Zane never really makes any friends at all, he normally keeps to himself." He says and I smile.

"He actually doesn't seem half bad, in sure he's just lonely or antisocial or something." I say with a shrug and Garroth sighs. "Yeah, something like that." He says quietly and I shrug. "Anyways, I was heading over to the mentor table before class so I'll see you later." I say and he nods. "You should say hi to Aphmau, she's really nice and she's always welcome to new friends." He says before walking off.

I walk over to the mentor booth and spot Aphmau. "Hey, its Aphmau right?" I say and she smiles. "Yeah, hey aren't you that werewolf girl I helped yesterday?" She says and I smile. "Yeah, my names Allison, anyways I was just talking with Garroth and he said you liked making new friends and I'm new here so I was just wondering if you wanted to be friends." I says and I almost laugh as her eyes light up and get so big I could use them as golf balls. "I would love too! Hey you wanna come over to my house and hang out after school?" She asks and I smile.

"Sure, sounds like a plan, I'll see you later then." I say with a smile and head off as she probably has plenty of mentor duties to attend to. I stop on my way to class and spot a werewolf picking on a younger one. I walk over to the werewolf. "Hey, leave him alone would you, jeez, he's just a little thing." I say and the werewolf grunts at me but then walks off. "T-thanks." The other werewolf boy says and I smile. "It's no problem, what your name." I say and he smiles. "Daniel, normally my friends help me but they both got sick today." He says and I smile. "Well I look forward to meeting them in the future and it's very nice to meet you, my names Allison."
