After a while of trying to figure out what Blair's motives are I decide to flip through the photo book of Mark and I. I start crying again as I look at our cheesy smiles when we went on a family trip to Cairns. "Willa? Can I come in?" says Emily from outside. "Yeah sure" I reply closing the photo book. "Willa are you alright? You look like you've been crying" Emily says concernedly. "Yeah I'm fine, it's just the stomach pains," I say hiding the book. I'm not sure whether I can trust Emily with my knowledge of Mark.
"You should go see Jacquie if it's causing too much pain. I just wanted to come in and see how you were really going after last night, it must've been quite traumatising" Emily says sitting on the edge of my bed. "I'm okay, just a little shaken up. You guys keep saying I'm really powerful but last night I tried to fight Nathan and I couldn't do anything. I felt so helpless," I say shaking my head. "No Willa, you're not helpless. You just need more training with Blair that's all, it seems to be going pretty well from the progress reports she's given me" Emily says encouragingly. "Thanks Emily. Hopefully I'll be able to beat guys like that soon" I say smiling. She nods and looks away for a minute as if looking for the right words.
"Willa do you remember much of last night in Jacquie's office?" She questions. I look at the ground trying to remember anything besides the pain and shake my head. "I don't have any clear memories. I remember it being really painful when she healed me, and I remember trying to look in a mirror but fainting. I think I was hallucinating to be honest because I sort of remember the reflection but it wasn't me" I say shrugging. "Willa, Henry and Blair were in the office last night with you and Jacquie. They told me that you mutated in the chair last night," Emily says truthfully.
I'm pretty sure my eyes bug out when she says this.
I remember the strange beauty of the reflection I saw last night. A girl with purple eyes, pale skin and black wavy hair. "That couldn't have been me. I don't look anything like that" I say confused. "It was you Willa. It's not uncommon for such things to happen in moments of extreme pain. Conjurers go through a pretty extreme version of puberty. That could potentially be how you look when you're older," Emily explains. I go into my bathroom to look in the mirror. Green eyes, frizzy hair and freckles.
"Are you sure?" I ask her. She nods still sitting on my bed. I go back and sit next to her, unsure of how to feel. "Oh and we worked out your origins last night! Not many people work those out so you're pretty lucky, although it does generally take near-death experiences..." Emily babbles. "What do you mean origins? Do you mean when my skin was really hot last night?" I say cutting off her excited babbling. "Yes exactly! You're powers come from fire. There are four origins of power: Earth, Air, Water and Fire. It seems by the heat of your skin last night which left Blair with a nasty little burn, you're definitely from fire" She says excitedly. At the mention of Blair I begin to feel distant again.
"Willa what's up? You just found out something really exciting! Hell you might learn how to throw fireballs soon!" Emily says supportively. "It's not that it's just... The guards last night said someone must've let Nathan in. And well... Blair led me right to him. Do you think it's a coincidence?" I ask honestly. I expected Emily to bite back and say no straight away but instead she contemplates my question for a bit before answering, "I don't think Blair would want you dead Willa. I believe she was true in her intentions of getting you to the safety of the gym but I'll bring your concern to the councils attention at the meeting this afternoon, okay?" Emily says helpfully. "Thank you Emily. It's not that I don't trust her its just that in this kind of situation... Well I'm just not sure who I can afford to trust," I explain. Emily nods.
"That's fair enough Willa. You went through hell last night. I have to go to a few meetings now but I'll let you know how the council one goes, I'll make sure to bring it up after Blair leaves so she doesn't get upset" Emily says walking to the door. I smile and give her a wave as she closes my door. I lie back on my bed and stare at the ceiling wondering what to do.
