The days leading up to Christmas were some of the happiest since discovering my powers. As my family were all conjurers we were open with each other and at first it would feel strange when I came downstairs and my mother was stirring her coffee without touching her spoon, or I saw my brother moving water as if it were a firm object. He compares himself to a water bender and I can't help but laugh. That boy watched way too much Avatar growing up. The powers quickly became normal and I felt so happy to just be with my family.

Mark would sneak over in the evenings and we would watch a bit of TV, revealing some of our powers to each other. I found out that he could make fire. Or at least he would be able to once he could learn to control it.

"I accidentally set Mum's dressing gown on fire the other morning. I really need some practice" He laughed. I would supposedly be able to make fire too but in a different way. My origins meant I wouldn't just be able to make fire, but control it to an extent where the fire and I became one. According to Blair anyway....

Thinking about Blair made me nervous. I wondered how she felt at the moment and whether her powers were coming back in yet. I wouldn't know till I returned to the Camp... If only I'd known at this stage that I wouldn't be returning to Camp for a very long time.

~~Christmas Day~~

BANG BANG

I jumped in my sleep at the loud noises and my door bursts open. A tall lean figure stand in my doorway and I groan covering my head with my pillow. "Get up it's time to open presents!" Alessio yells. You would honestly think he was 10 years old rather than 20.

I slowly get out of bed and then he yanks my arms but lets go quickly.

'What?" I grumble.

"Ummm... purple eyes.... does that mean you're going to attack me?" he questions slowly backing away.

I laugh. "No it just means you p*ssed me off idiot!" I say punching his arm lightly. He laughs and then heads out to the front room where all our presents are waiting. I put on a light jumper and then head to the front room where a nicely sized pile of presents is waiting.

The presents were very different from in past years. My parents gave me a silver hunting knife, a bow and arrows, and a few books on conjurer history. "We want you to be able to learn everything about our history honey. And we thought the weapons will be useful when you go to London" My mother explained. I smile and thank them looking at the hunting knife. The detail in its design is both intricate and beautiful. I hoped that I would never have to use it.

As the day went on the weather grew hot and Alessio and I decided to drive down to the beach and celebrate Christmas in a very Aussie way, surfing before a barbecue with our extended family. I wasn't very good at surfing but I loved the beach. The morning went quickly and we were soon back at the house getting ready for our grandparents and cousins to arrive for lunch. Mum and Dad worked hard in the kitchen preparing salads and other delicious looking dishes. I ran up to my room for a quick shower and was surprised to see Mark lying on my bed.

"What are you doing here?!" I whisper yell. He laughs softly and shuts the door behind me. His hand reaches above my head and I see he's holding mistletoe.

"Merry Christmas Willa" He whispers. He leans in and kisses me passionately. When we pull away his eyes are burning a deep orange. As he lies down on my bed again I notice that he's looking worse today. His eyes are bloodshot with dark lines underneath them and his arms are covered in bruising.

"Mark what's happened? You look like someone beat you up" I say in shock. He pulls me close to him before murmuring, "there's nothing to worry about Little Starr. Just a rough night". Looking at him now I know he's lying. Something else has to be going on. "Mark you know if something's wrong you can tell me right?" I say. He nods smiling. "Of course. Please don't worry Willa I promise I'm fine. The power's are just hitting me hard" He responds. I nod my head but I know he still isn't telling me the truth. I can't force him to tell me but he's never been good at hiding things in the past.

"Are you still coming tonight?" He questions as he plays with my hair. "If you want me to. I don't think we should battle or anything like that though Mark I don't want to make whatever's going on with you worse" I worry. He laughs but turns serious when he see's I'm not joking. "Okay. But I still want to show each other our powers it'll be fun. Plus we can do presents then!" He says with a big grin. "Alright I'll see you there" I say kissing his cheek.

"WILLA! YOUR GRANDPARENTS ARE HERE!" Mum yells from downstairs.

"That's my cue" I say with a sigh. Mark gives me a big hug and jumps out the window.

I couldn't wait to see him that night. I wish that I'd known what could happen when young conjurers decide to practice unsupervised. If I'd known I never would have gone to meet mark that night...
