I sit and wait in my office waiting for Raven to get back I lean forward to rest my elbows on my knees and my forehead in my hands.
"She'll be fine. Perfectly unscathed. She's hard as rocks, that one." A voice says and I look up to see the calm face of my mother.
"Just because she'll be fine doesn't mean I won't worry, besides I remember you worrying every time father went away." I say my voice as calm as I can make it.
"Come here worrier." She says and I stand up and head towards her open arms. I burry my head into her shirt and even though I dwarf her in size she still holds me as if I'm a child.
"I'm scared mum, I'm scared that she's hurt." I whisper.
"She's fine my boy, why don't you go paint her room with those lovely flowers you do." She says and I nod heading off to my mates' room. Before I reach her room, I go to my wing and grab my paints and when I get to her room I start painting all over her walls.
Her walls are covered and it's well into the night and close to dawn when I hear the screeching of tires and know only that kind of driving comes from someone in dire need.
I drop my things and rush from the room and flee the building. Ravens truck roars into the pack heading straight for the hospital. I run as fast as I can to the hospital to see Raven on a gurdy being rolled inside. I step back in shock. She's hurt and it's my fault I should have gone with her. I sprint into the hospital right to her side.
I am taken aback by the girl in front of me, this is not the raven I know. This girl looks like Raven but her hair is a lighter colour and is more brittle. In the little time since I've seem her she's thinned so much, her cheeks caved in and her eyes sockets seem to be more sunken in. Her skin has paled so much it is almost translucent. All in all, she looks like shit.
"Raven." I croak. She opens her eyes and smiles faintly at me before taking my hand causing me to look at her hand and arm and there I see a bite on her forearm. The veins around it turning black and the skin on the edges turning grey. One lone black line stretches to her abdomen.
A doctor pushes past me and I fall behind I watch as her hand falls limply over the side of the moving bed. I fall to the floor and watch her be pushed into an operating room.
I don't know when I fell over or when I started crying but I know I remained that way when my mother came to get me, hours later.
"Honey, get up off the floor." She says kneeling in front of me.
"Momma." I whimper, reaching out to her and letting out a sob.
"Get off the floor Tobias." She says a little more forcefully.
"But,"
"Get off the floor, I raised you better than this. Get off the floor!" She takes hold of my arm and pulls. I raise to my feet and follow her out of the hospital.
"I need to be there when she wakes up." I say my voice hoarse and cracking.
"You will be, but right now I need you to go to bed and rest." She has now lead me into the pack house and up to my floor.
"But I can't sleep with out her." I say.
"Tobias," she sighs before taking me to her room and when I enter I don't smell anything of her. She hasn't even been in this room, but she has been in mine. I slip my arm form my mom's and head to my room where the faint smell of Raven can be found.
I dive into my bed and quickly fall asleep.
Ravens P.O.V.
I feel like screaming. my whole body feels like it has been lit on fire. I want to scream but I can't move. I try but red hot pain comes from my forearm.
The pain is too much and I get out a guttural scream. My eyes fly open as I sit up in a rush. I scan my surroundings the horrid smell of medical equipment burns my nose as I breathe it in.I sit in a medical room no one is around me and I feel alone.
I swing my legs over the side of the bed and stand up but once I'm on my feet I sway a little and grab the roller with my IV bag and go for a stroll out into the hallway. I don't see anyone in the halls and when I walk out into the lobby and see a commotion happening outside.
Tobias stands on a makeshift stage and all the pack members are around him and some blonde female. I stand in the hospital doorway. I watch Tobias make an announcement.
His face reads sadness and after he says something I am no close enough to hear it. I wheel the stand with me to get closer and hear what he has to say.
"...And so with a heavy heart I name Stephanie Andrews, luna of this pack." he says and I can't keep in my rage.
"What?" I exclaim causing all the heads in the area to look at me.
"Your alive?" Tobias stutters.
"Yes I'm alive you dumb shit!" I say shocked.
"But your heart stopped they told me you were dead." he says weakly.
"So in the two days I'e been out you've found a new hoe and made her luna." I say. "That's great I hope you'll be very happy with each other, I'm leaving." I storm through the crowd my stand rattling and the thin hospital gown flowing with the slight breeze.
I climb into my truck that smells unnaturally of bleach and rip the IV's out of my arm and close the door. I see my brother come out of pack house as I leave the pack.
I drive away leaving my pack, my mate, my family and my former life behind.
