“You haven’t talked to her yet?” I groaned out loud, squeezing my eyelids together.

“No, I haven’t been able to find her.” I grumble back.

“Rae, this isn’t good. What if she-” Before Craig could go any further I cut him off.

“Trust me, I know!” I whined into the phone. I heard a deep chuckle which caused me to frown. “What are you laughing at?” I asked, rolling over on my bed so I was on my back.

“Nothing.” Craig replied, making my frown deeper.

“Craig…”

“What?” He asked innocently.

“What are you laughing at?” I whined a bit more, rolling back over and onto my stomach. You would’ve thought I was talking to a best friend the way I had my cell phone glued to my ear and how I talked, but it was just Craig.

“I’m just laughing at how cute you sound.” My cheeks heated up a bit and I was glad we were only talking on the phone because if we weren’t they’d probably be beet red.

“It’s not funny; it’s a very serious matter.” I told him, pressing my lips together as I heard the doorbell ring and footsteps outside of my door. I forgot about Craig for a few seconds, which was long enough to miss what he had said. “What?”

“I said you’ve got to find her and talk to her. I’d do it myself, but well, she’s your best friend.”

“So, if Jake finds out you’ll be the one to talk to him since he’s your best friend?” I questioned, hearing the door open and someone have a conversation with someone.

“Well, first of all he won’t find out or I’d have my balls cut off and he’s your brother, that’s closer than best friend.” I rolled my eyes even though he couldn’t see me.

“Craig, we can’t go on like this forever.” I mumbled into the phone as I heard footsteps coming up the stairs. I didn’t want anyone overhearing especially Jake. “I mean how long can we stay like this, sneaking around and everything.”

“Rae… It’s only Katie. If we can get her to keep it a secret then it’ll be fine. I mean, I haven’t heard anything from anyone lately so she must not be telling anyone.” Craig informed me, but when I didn’t answer he continued, “Katie’s the only one, right?”

I bit my lip and stayed silent.

“Rae!” I opened my mouth; ready to confess about Kent knowing when my door was swung open. I closed my mouth faster than I opened it as I stared back at Jake.

“What?” I asked, wondering why he was in my room.

“Rae, is there someone else who knows?” Craig wondered just as Jake said something.

“Um, I’ll talk to you later, Lucy.” I basically yelled into the phone, loud enough that Jake would be able to hear. Before Craig could say anything more into his line, I hung up and closed my phone.

Jake’s eyebrows furrowed as he looked over at me asking, “Are you talking to cousin Lucy?”

“Um, yeah, but never mind that. What did you say and why are you in my room?” I quickly pushed aside the phone call, not wanting to come up with lies of what we were talking about, why, and whatever.

“Katie’s here.” For a second I froze. What was I going to say to her? A lie didn’t seem right. “She’s not really here to talk to you, but I told her I had to change so whatever you two have got going on, you can fix it now. I’m going out the back door and I’ll be at Ian’s for a little while. Call me when this is over.” He told me, backing out of my room and closing my door behind him.
