We come home to see a note on the front door. It's from Ava.
Thank you for letting me stay at your house. But I have to take care of some business. I left some money on the dinner table. -Kyra
"What the fuck is this?! I can't believe her!" My mom starts to swear up and down how she was just using us for food and shelter. I just tune her out till she says something that really pisses me off. "Maybe Sarah was right, she is just a charity case!"
"Don't you dare talk about her like that! Who are you to call someone a charity case when you should be rotting in jail. All of you should be rotting in that hell hole!" I storm off into my room and slam my door. I needed to get out of there before I said something I'd regret. I pace back and forth in my room. What is wrong with me? Even after all those things Ava said, I still think she's innocent. She has confessed to counts of murder to me, and I continue to brush it off like its nothing. Well whatever spell she has me under, its working like a charm. I need to talk to her asap. I decide to text her.
Landon: We need to meet.
Kyra: What so you can turn me in?
Landon: Why would you think I would do that? I just need to see you.
30 minutes later....
Kyra: Summer's motel in 20 minutes. Number 204
Landon: I'll meet you there.
I change out of my tux and jump out the window. I walk to the bus station and wait for it to arrive.
I stand there for a moment to ready myself for whats next and finally knock. She slowly opens the the door, letting me in. She closes the door, and before she can say anything I grab her and latch my lips onto hers. We stand there with exploring each others body until she pushes me away. She composes herself and leans on the door, her hand crossed and a emotionless expression. "You needed to see me? Why?" I let a small titter out and shake my head.
"Why are you doing this to me?"
"Doing what ?"
"Not letting me in. Not letting me express how much I feel for you. Is it because you hate me?"
"No its not that."
"Then what is it Ava?" I start to raise my voice. "Why do you keep doing this?!"
"Because I don't deserve you! You are such an amazing person who tries to give justice to those who need it. I thought that maybe if I helped you with your family, I could be that person. The person that deserves to be in love with a guy like you! But I'm not. And I will never be Landon. So I push you away in hopes that you will hate me, because hate is all I really deserve." She starts to cry hysterically. I stand there in shock until I reach over and wrap my arms around her, giving her the embrace she's needed in a while.
"You deserve to be loved." She starts to calm down and I lead her to the edge of the bed. She swallows hard and I can tell she's about to let everything out.
"He wasn't always like this. Charlie I mean. When we started dating, I really thought he was the one. But that all changed."
Ava's POV
July 20th, 2015
We sit there in his living room watching TV and smoking weed when someone knocks on his door. "Its open!" He yells to the person. They open the door and I see it's one of Charlie's friends, Romeo. He drops a big black trash bag. Charlie looked up at Romeo and cocked his eyebrow in confusion. "What is this?"
"Your piece of the money bro." Romeo's Mexican accent is heavy and I can barely understand. But I can make it out enough to understand it's Charlie's money.
"Where did you get this from?" I ask Charlie concerned. Romeo rolls his eyes at me and crosses his arms.
"You better talk to your girl ese." Charlie grabs my arm and leads me into his bathroom.
"What are you doing Charlie?" I ask him even more concerned this time. He just sighs.
"Look okay, I'm in a escort business. I have some people take pictures of my girls, put them on a secret website, then boom, men want in for big bucks!"
"Your girls?!" I ask in a questioning tone. He rolls his eyes and lays his hands on my cheeks.
"Baby its just a business term. Me, Romeo and some other guys have are group of girls. Its nothing." His eyes light up with an idea in his head. "Join us."
"What?"
"Come on!" He grabs my hands and kisses the both of them. "It'll be fun! Plus, we could work together. You would be my girl and my girl only."
"Except for the fact that I'll be these other perverted men girl too."
"Don't be like that baby. Just think about okay?" I roll my eyes and sigh.
"I'll think about it." He smiles sweetly and kisses my forehead.
"I should drop you off now before your parents wake up." He's right. Its 4 in the morning and my usually wakes up at 6. I nod my head and we walk to his car outside.
"Where have you been?! I've been worried sick about you!" I roll my eyes and close the front door, ignoring my mother while I walk to my room. "Why do you smell like weed?"
"Because I was smoking it." I answer her sarcastically. She holds up my pill bottle and glares at me.
"Why did you throw these away Ava?"
"Because Charlie says I don't need them. They're just trying to make it seem like people need medicine when really you don't."
"You and that darn boy! I want you to stop seeing him." I look at her with a hurt expression.
"You can't do that! He means everything to me mom!"
"He is a terrible influence on you. He's probably a predator too!" I scoff.
"Don't act like you know him."
"People like that want to hurt sweet girls like you."
"I'm not sweet mother!" I start to raise my voice. "I'm not that little innocent girl you think I am. I deserve to have an actual life, and he has shown me that!"
"Don"t talk to your mother like that!" By now, my dad and brother joined in my moms and I conversation.
"Or what?!" I throw my hands up. "You'll throw me out? Well I'll save you the trouble." I start to throw my clothes inside my book bag and run out the door.
By the time I walk to Charlie's day job at the skateboard store, its 7 in the morning. I open the door and the little welcome bell rings. "Hi welcome to Narly Rides how can I help you?" A man with in his mid 30's with a long ponytail and glasses welcomes me. I walk over to the cash register where he is.
"I'm looking for Charlie Gold? Is he in today?"
"Lemme go check." He jumps off of his stool and enters the employee room. I look around at the expensive skateboards on display. I've seen the outside of where he works, I've just never been in. I hear the door open and turn to see Charlie in his uniform.
"Hey, what are you doing here?" I get close to him and start to whisper.
"We need to talk." He nods and I follow him to the supply room. He leans against the closed door with his arms crossed and eyebrow arched. "I thought about your proposal. And I want to join." A smirk starts to develop on his face and I can see happiness in his eyes. "I also need a place to stay. Ya think you can hook me up?" He cups my cheeks in his hands and looks down at me.
"I'll take care of it babe."
