Liberation

Happiness hit her like a bullet.
She had not felt it in so long
Her body had no time to defend itself.
She was overthrown completely,
Liberated so free;
She drops her weapons in surrender
Her armour falls away like melted silver.
You had not seen such beauty
Burst from a thing withheld so cruelly.
Her skin so white like snowdrops,
Limbs so twisted, now unchained
She throws them around in a wild dance,
Courage has found her again.
Her blood dries in a black cage,
Far away, sat on a slow sunset
Beneath the fire-filled waves.
But a girl runs away.
Towards the bright things and the
Whispering song of a brand new day.
A soft clarity of light falls across the golden hay
And a girl is brave.
Happiness hit her like a bullet;
Now she runs like she has butterflies in her brain.
