Intro:
When does it end? What have I done to the world? Vanessa walked down the stairs as she thought this to herself. You may think that she’s a normal pessimistic teenager who has nothing better to do than whinge but she used to be happy with her life. Vanessa Osei was an all round popular girl. She was sporty and had an amazing smile. She was friends with everyone; even with the people that nobody else liked. She thanked God for everyday He gave her but now she prayed to God to end her life. All of this change because of one boy who couldn’t take no for an answer...
“Ness? Are you okay?” Her twin sister Jessica asked. Their mother wanted names that could be similar so Ness and Jess it was. Vanessa looked up and pinned her gaze on her younger sister and tried to smile. “I’m fine.” She said quietly. Jess let it go and then sat down at the table. Vanessa poured herself a bowl of cereal and began to dig in. She could feel her sister watching her intently but ignored it. Jessica was constantly worried about Vanessa. The truth was that she didn’t want to go through any of that again.
*Flashback*
“Ness? Can I borrow your straightners please? Mine are broken.” Jessica asked as she knocked on Vanessa’s bedroom door. No answer. Jessica decided that Vanessa was asleep and decided to creep into her bedroom and steal the straightners. She opened the door and tiptoed into the room. She looked over to the bed and saw Vanessa sleeping peacefully. She stopped and looked again and slowly realised that her sister wasn’t moving at all; wasn’t breathing. She ran across the room and saw a bottle of pills in Vanessa’s hand. She had no idea what to do. “Dad, come quickly. Vanessa’s-” She was cut off by her father running into the room. “What’s going on? Oh my lord. Jess call the ambulance!” He cried to her. He started to do CPR and Jessica ran to the phone and dialled 999 quickly...
“Jess? Are you listening to me?” Vanessa demanded. “Sorry, what were you saying?” She replied. “We need to go otherwise we’ll be late.” She huffed clearly annoyed that she’d had to repeat it so many times. The two girls got up and gathered up their stuff for college. They were identical twins but they couldn’t be any more different; looks and personality-wise. Jessica was slim and always stood with a straight back. She had long black eye-lashes that shielded her black eyes and a flawless smile. She was more outgoing and wasn’t afraid to speak her mind. Vanessa was curvy and her eyes were a little lighter. She was quite shy and didn’t like hanging around in big crowds so most boys didn’t like to approach her unlike her sister. They were just about to leave the house when their mother came down the stairs. “Vanessa, you’ve got to give a speech today don’t you?” She asked. Vanessa nodded but kept her eyes down. Her mother walked over to her, laid a hand on her shoulder and smiled. “You’ll be fine. Don’t worry so much.” She told her daughter. Vanessa looked up at her mother and grinned. Jessica smiled happily in the background as her mother retreated back into the kitchen. “Oh Ness, I forgot; today’s your last session with Dr Steel before the retreat.” Her mother called out. Inwardly, Jessica winced and watched as her sister’s bright smile that was rarely ever seen turned into a frown.
Dr Steel was Vanessa’s therapist and she was as tough as her name suggests. Vanessa hated going to her but she didn’t want to give her mother any reason to keep her in the house after she finished college. She couldn’t wait to be free and do something with her life. It was weird; just a few months ago she really wanted to die but she wanted to help people like her. She had expressed that to Dr Steel during one of their sessions and that was when she suggested that Vanessa go to America where people had been different problems and got together to inspire each other to live on. Vanessa couldn’t think of anything worse. She didn’t want to tell another soul that she had been raped. By the boy that supposedly loved her. That just goes to show how twisted love really was.
