Sky stares at the pregnancy test in her hand, it was the third one of the day. It showed the same sign that all the other ones did, positive. The only reason that she wanted to use the test, was because she missed her period. It was usually on time, and her body was feeling different. She drops to the ground, her head falls into her arms. But Sky couldn't cry anymore, all the tears she has, gone, all that is left is a feeling of self-loathing and hate.
Having a baby is going be like the crushing blow her life, her parents would never allow her to abort the baby, considering that it was another "human being." How could she look at a child, so innocent, the product of rape? Although she knew that her parents were bound to disown her, she wants them to at least know.
Her mother comes upstairs, her hair tied in a neat bun, wearing a blue checkered apron. "Sweetie what's wrong?" asks her mother, in that sickly sweet voice, it was so fake it made Sky cringe.
Sky buried herself deeper into her knees, wanting to disappear. Her mother was the stereotypical, "I cook, clean, and my husband is almighty kind of mother." She trusted her mother with everything at one time, but when Sky came out, everything was ugly.
It was so ugly, she didn't believe she was raped when she came home bleeding, with ripped clothing. The mother that she loved as a child was gone in an instant, as soon as she didn't fit the stereotype, she was shunned. Her mother stopped loving her as soon as she decided to tell her family that she was bisexual, only her brother accepted her, but she couldn't allow herself to burden him.
Logan Carter, is going to college soon, he is the star of the basketball team, the perfect Catholic boy. He believes in God, while Sky questions God,he found faith where she could not. Logan didn't hold it against her though,"Faith is something that can't be forced on you, you'll find your own path soon enough," he always tells her with his comforting smile.
Max was her cover up, her best friend was openly gay with his family, who easily accepts him. Max was afraid to tell the school, one foot in the closet, the other out in the cold world. Their school is anything but accepting, it is full of powerful and rich students. The gay asian, was the epitome of happiness and optimism, Sky was his polar opposite, pessimistic at times and extremely quiet. That is what brought them together though, the two opposites.
They were each other's support when things got tough, but she was afraid what he would think. Would he curse Sky or accept her with open arms? This wasn't something she could easily tell him, although they were close, her girl problems were usually kept to her self.
Crushes and frivolous gossip, could be shared, but anything to do with her body, he wouldn't question, allowing her to do what she pleased with her own body. Max knew and respects the boundaries, even though he is gay, he doesn't think that he needs to involve himself in her more personal problems.
Her mother leaning down, made her flinch, perfume assaulting her senses."Get out of my house, you have betrayed God's trust," Sky's mother whispered, voice dangerously low.
Sky backed even further into the sink, afraid,"Don't expect any help from us, if you know what's good for you, you would run to your gay friend," her mother spit with scorn.
"How-" asks Sky, wanting to know how her shield of lies was broken so easily.
"I can tell when someone has committed a sin against God," her mother says lifting her daughter up, none to gently. "You wanted to leave anyway, go," her mother says.
Sky opens her mouth in protest, she is kicked out, the door slamming in her face. The clothes she had packed before hand land on the perfectly manicured lawn, at least her mother was nice enough to give her clothes. Sky made a slow trek to her, fake boyfriend, confidant, and best friend. Although Max was probably at school, doing another meaningless detention for being gay.
