"Is he going to be alright?" I asked peering past Damon's broad shoulders to see glance at Dallas rolling around in his own pool of blood.
"Do you honestly care?" He asked quirking up his right eyebrow. I nodded my head sideways, he had a valid point. The boy did just try to lay everything he had on me.
"Well not particularly, but I don't think you want a murder charge to your name," I shoved his shoulder with my hand.
"He will be fine, trust me just a broken nose that'll need reset at the emergency room once someone comes out here and finds his sorry ass crying like a little girl."
"Is that coming from experience?"
"I don't cry like a little girl," He winked before taking a long deep breath. He looked past me for a short second before his eyes fell on mine. They were almost like grey glass tonight in the dark. They searched mine for words to say.
"I really need to talk to you," Damon and I finally said at the same time. We both sounded like we had been searching for each other all night long. In reality I had been until I was practically abducted by the guy who probably won't ever be able to smell anything again. I wasn't for sure his nose would ever recover from the hit Damon single handily, literally, gave him. Served him right.
"Alright, but I don't think we should talk about this with Dallas right behind us groaning in pain," He half chuckled and I cracked a small smile. The douche bag deserved every blow to the face he received from Damon. If it weren't for him coming to save me it would not have ended well.
"Not unless I get to go back and give him another kick in the ribs," I mumbled under my breath, but Damon laughed that low rumble that made my heart drop to my stomach nearly every single time. I looked up and saw him gleaming down at me knowing I was done for at this point. My heart sank low in my ribs. I had missed his low laugh, his hard dimples when he grinned because something made him laugh, and everything about him that made my heart race like crazy. I felt both brave facing him again after I had been ignoring him and terrified I was making the wrong choice, but between my mother, Norma, and Daniel, they some how gave me the courage to be standing in front of him after I did the most humanly awful thing. I didn't deserve the second chance I was hoping for with him, but I had hope that maybe by him putting Dallas' nose through his cranial cavity maybe he would give me one.
"Let's go back to the house and we will talk okay? I don't want to be out here when I have so much to say to you, things that I wish I would have told you way before tonight," He stopped and turned to look at me intently sending me weak in the knees. Seeing him so intense was starting to send my pulse through the sky. He reached down to grab my right hand and lifted it gently to his mouth and planted a soft kiss on my knuckle and I thought my knees about gave out on me, "I'm going to hold onto you so I don't lose you again," Damon smiled, "And so I don't have to break anybody else's nose tonight". Was this my second chance? My cheeks turned crimson from his gesture. I wanted to pull his face close to mine and kiss the living day lights out of him; to make up for lost the lost time that I was too stupid to know what I had, but he needed to hear what I had to say first. Desire should not play a factor into his decision with me.
My whole body was blushing. Even in the dark I was sure he could see the blush that was creeping onto my face. Hell he could probably feel the heat my cheeks were throwing off. I craved his touch and I had a slight hunch he knew I did too. He kept squeezing my small hand inside his as we began our trudge back to the house.
