Hye Soo’s pov
I nervously twiddled my fingers as we walked alongside each other. Every inch of my body and soul didn’t dare to look at him in the eye while talking, as rude as I would seem. Out of fear that I would forget all the words in the language, my eyes were glued to the ground, even as I spoke.
“To start off, I wasn’t lying when I said I was friends with Jungkook. We met in high school… I think I was 12, maybe 13 years old? Anyways, our friends were friends with each other, and we eventually became best friends,” I smiled, recalling the memories of my foolish teenage years. My eyes wandered to Taehyung for a second, who seemed too silent. But I was too scared I would start staring at him (because like who wouldn’t??), so I reverted back to gazing at the ground.
“But the day before he left to become a trainee, we got into a fight. And that’s kinda where everything started, I guess. That day, after the fight, my brother’s friend wanted to meet up. And I wanted to meet him. But I decided against it, and went to Jungkook’s house instead. I knew I needed to talk to him, but he wasn’t there. I waited at his doorstep for, maybe, 30 minutes? 1 hour? I don’t remember, just during that time, something happened with my brother’s friend and, well, he blamed me for it. And now, he pretty much hates me.”
“Who?” Taehyung questioned. “Your brother?”
“Yeah…” I raised my hand to rub the back of my head awkwardly.
“What happened to him?”
A sigh escaped me, releasing some of the tensions within me. “He died…”
“Oh… I-I-”
“Don’t worry about it,” I giggled lightheartedly. “It was a while ago.”
“Still, I’m sorry for even asking.”
I finally mustered up the courage to face him. Taehyung, although embarrassed, grinned brightly. And that brought a smile to my face that soon faded. “Yep, that’s all there is to the story,” I looked up at the sky for a moment. It was a faint blue, that pretty blue I always stopped to admire.
“Wow,” Taehyung let out.
“Taehyung-ah,” I stopped to turned towards him. “I didn’t want to tell you anything because I didn’t want you to hate him. Oppa… he’s not like that to you guys, right?”
“No… which is why this is hard to believe.”
“Do you believe me?”
“I mean, I, I’m not sure, actually.”
“I understand. I don’t even have any evidence of this yet.”
“Yet?”
“Yes, yet.”
“Ha, well, I wish you luck with that. In the meantime, how about we start over?”
“Hm?” I tilted my head to one side, unsure of what he meant.
His hand extended towards me. “Hi, I’m Kim Taehyung.”
I chuckled at his action. Slowly, I stretched out my hand into a fist and fist bumped him. “Hi, I’m Jung Hye Soo,” I replied, “But in front of BTS, I’m Cheon Song Mi.”
“I’m sure he doesn’t hate you though, your brother,” Taehyung spoke. Although he seemed so sure of it, I couldn’t bring myself to believe his words. He still hasn’t seen the way he treated me, and I don’t want him to know. “Ho Seok hyung… even if it seems like he wants nothing to do with you, he wouldn’t be able to hate you. That’s just how he is. There’s a reason why he’s acting the way he is towards you, and I’ll help you find out what it is.”
