She studied him for a moment, from the sleeve tattoo, the tight jeans, the way he grinned while he listened to the other man he was talking to. He was her type of guy, unlike the man she had been with all night. As she tried to think of a way to ditch her date and go talk to the man across the bar, she felt a presence next to her, and looked back to see her date grinning at her.
With a sigh, she looked around the bar again, once more finding the man she had seen earlier. He was alone now, standing at the other end of the bartop, ordering something from the bartender. Getting a better look at him, and now beginning to feel the alcohol in her system taking effect, her mind wandered, thinking about how he looked like he would have showed her a better time had she been on a date with him instead.
As she was blatantly staring at him, he looked in her direction, catching her eyes on him. Instead of looking away, she bit her lip to hide the smile that was creeping up on her face. He smiled back at her, diverting his attention to the bartender as he was being handed his drink.
She thought he was going to join his friends again, but instead he made his way towards her, easing past all of the other patrons that stood in his way. When he finally reached her, he set his drink down on the bar, gesturing to the empty seat beside her.
"Is it okay if I sit here?" he asked, smiling at her.
"Sure," she replied, matching his smile. He eased into the seat beside her, resting his arm on the bar."My name's Josh," he said, holding his hand out to her. She accepted his handshake, telling him her name as well.
"I saw you over here before talking to one of those preppy looking dudes. That your date?""Unfortunately," the girl answered, with a sigh. "We met on Tinder. Not an ideal match, really."
"You've gotta be careful with those dating sites," Josh said. "No telling who you'll meet.""I've learned that now," she said, laughing. "He seemed like a good guy from his profile, but I guess you don't pick up on girls if you list yourself as being egotistical." Josh laughed, nodding his head in agreement.
"Did he actually ditch you to play pool with his friends?" he asked, glancing across the bar to where the girl's date was.
"Yep," she said. "Not that I mind."
"Well, I don't mind either. It means I have the opportunity to talk to you now." The girl smiled at Josh's words; already he seemed far nicer than her date. "So, what have you done tonight on this miraculous date of yours?" he asked."Ah, well, we went to a fancy restaurant that he didn't even bother to make reservations at," she began. "Which meant we had to wait thirty minutes for a table."
"Smooth," Josh said, laughing.
"Then he took me to see one of those raunchy comedies that's so popular amongst college kids nowadays," she continued."Which he didn't even ask if I was interested in seeing. And it was absolutely appalling, so I'd suggest skipping that one." Josh laughed again, resting his elbow on the bar and leaning his head against his hand. "And once that was finally over, he suggested we come here," she said. "Which I wasn't sure was such a good idea, but now I'm happy I agreed to it."
"Oh, really?" Josh asked, quirking an eyebrow. "And what changed your mind exactly?"
"Well," she began, leaning closer towards Josh. "My present company is much more interesting than what I've been dealing with all night." Josh grinned, licking his lips. As he began to speak, another man came running over, throwing his arm around Josh's shoulders."I was wondering what was taking you so long, but now I see what you've been up to," the man said, grinning at the pair. "How's it goin'?"
"Good," the girl replied, with a chuckle. She glanced back to Josh, who appeared to be embarrassed. "Friend of yours?"
